MYTH: Bed bugs only come out in the dark, sleeping with the light on will prevent me from getting bitten. FACT: Bed bugs activity level has nothing to do with the amount of light in a room. Instead, bed bugs adapt their activity level to the schedule of the host to amplify their feeding time.
The best option is to use a cover with a good seal that zips around your mattress and box spring. This traps the pests until they eventually die. And it keeps new bedbugs from crawling into your mattress. Look for an encasement that's sturdy and designed specifically for bedbugs.
While many people assume that they don't see bed bugs because the bugs don't come out when the lights are on, this is actually false.
Do Bed Bugs Usually Stay In One Room? Since bed bugs do not have wings and do not jump, some people incorrectly assume that they tend to stay in one room and not travel much. However, this is not true. Bed bugs move around quickly and seek any place where they can find their next blood meal (i.e. humans).
Place a source of heat in the room. Since body heat attracts bed bugs, it would be a nice trick to lure them out with a device set at the same temperature. Release some carbon dioxide near their hiding spots. Bed bugs find this gas irresistible, as it signifies that a person is sleeping nearby.
