Zulfiqar (Arabic: ذُو ٱلْفَقَار, romanized: Ḏū-l-Faqār, IPA: [ðuː‿l.faˈqaːr]), also spelled Zu al-Faqar, Zulfikar, Dhu al-Faqar, Dhulfaqar or Dhulfiqar, is the sword of Ali ibn Abi Talib.
But Zulfiqar was not found anywhere. Few believe that after Imam Hussain, it was passed on to his sons and now Imam Mehdi may have it, or according to some, it was returned back to Allah.
After Imam Ali's (as) martyrdom, the sword was inherited by his elder son. The second Imam, Imam Hassan (as), and then Imam Hussain (as). Imam Hussain (a) was subsequently seen in Karbala with Zulfiqar. It is said that the sword was then passed on to Imam Hussain(a)'s sons.
In many reliable historical sources, Imam Ali's sword Zulfiqar weighs 4 kilograms 820 grams, the length of the sword is 185 cm and its width is 24 cm.
'Zulfiqar' has a root that appears in the Holy Quran, too, and gives us many interesting words in Urdu. The root 'fqr' means 'spinal vertebra'. (That accounts for the above meaning listed as grooves.) The derivative 'faqir' (beggar) actually means 'a man whose spine is broken'.
