It's official:
Now that Stranger Things season 4 has confirmed not only Will's queerness, but also his unrequited love for Mike, it's certainly interesting to look at their relationship in retrospect.
Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp confirms the obvious about Will: 'He is gay and he does love Mike'
The following contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2, now available to stream on Netflix. In Season 4, Episode 8 of Stranger Things, “Papa,” the series finally gave Will a moment to confess his love for Mike. When Mike shows his insecurity, Will uses that moment of confession in Eleven's name.
The actor explains that Will's sexual orientation was "hinted at" all the way back in season 1. Noah Schnapp has officially confirmed that his Stranger Things character Will Byers is "gay, and does love Mike", his on-screen best friend.
Eleven brings up that she did hear Mike confess his feelings for her, she tells him that she loves him too. They share a goodbye kiss, and a few more tearful goodbye hugs and kisses before she gets into the moving truck, leaving Mike and her friends behind in Hawkins.
Noah confirmed that Will is in love with his best friend Mike Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard, but doesn't want to hurt Eleven's feelings by confessing it. Noah also said that he is hoping for Will to have a coming-out scene in the fifth and last season of the Netflix show.
Fandom. Sorry, but Byler isn't going to be canon.
It's not until Jonathan overhears a conversation between Will and Mike, and Will's feelings towards Mike become more obvious (not to Mike, though, who remains oblivious) that he pays more attention to what's going on with Will.
In a new interview Variety, Noah has confirmed that Will is gay, and that he is in love with Mike Wheeler.
Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has officially confirmed that Will Byers is gay and is in love with his friend, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), as season 4 strongly indicated. Will's sexuality has been a topic of discussion among Stranger Things fans since season 3.
Also Will was clearly jealous of Mike and El being together and even more annoyed when he still talked about her despite her dumping him...
Mike, on the other hand, did experience love growing up, from his parents, his friends, and his siblings. His issue isn't that he can't love, but that he doesn't realize how important it can be for some people to hear that declaration, especially for someone with a story like Eleven.
In an interview with series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, Collider's own Steve Weintraub asked the writing and directing duo about Will's speech to Mike (Finn Wolfhard) in Episode 8. In the episode, Will unveils his painting from Volume 1 and explains the complexities of El and Mike's feelings for each other.
"Stranger Things" creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently spoke with Variety about the show's fourth season, which sees Will in a sad state, perhaps because of his unrequited love for his friend Mike (Finn Wolfhard).
At one point, Will says, "When you're different, sometimes you feel like a mistake." Will is indirectly telling Mike that he is gay and that it is he who feels different. After their conversation ends, Will painfully turns away from Mike and sobs into his hand out the window, so Mike will not see him get upset.
Jonathan opens up to Will, admitting that he misses talking to his younger brother and tells Will how much he means to him. Will tells Jonathan he will also be there for him, and the brothers share an emotional hug.
Everything surrounding The Demogorgon and The Upside Down has caused a negative impact on Will and Mike's friendship. But the sad truth is that not all childhood friendships survive to adulthood or even adolescence in some cases. And in Will and Mike's case, they may be naturally growing apart.
For a school project, he picked Alan Turing as his hero. Turing was a math genius who was persecuted because of his sexuality.
Brett Gelman, who portrays Murray Bauman, stated on Twitter that he ships Byler if "Byler is what is meant to be". Grace Van Dien, who portrays Chrissy Cunningham, said that she likes "Mike with both Eleven and Will".
Stranger Writers has mostly confirmed Byler, or at least given some hints for something in the next season. So, let us begin. StrangerWriters posted pictures of Will, Eleven, Mike, and Lucas, all back to back.
El and Will -Step siblings | Fandom. Obviously, H & J did not marry - but El and Will are still step siblings. Noah and Millie clearly had not thought about that possiblity, and were clearly excited about it.
That is exactly who I was when I was a kid.” That just made me so happy to hear. They are writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they're doing it so well. Schnapp has also confirmed that Will has been jealous of Eleven since season two as Mike began to have feelings towards her.
Will's coming out moment comes when he gifts Mike a painting and gives a speech about how Eleven is "different," though he is referring to himself throughout. He lies to Mike, saying Eleven commissioned him to paint it, but in reality it was him expressing his love for Mike.
