Douyin users
Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has over 750 million daily active users and is one of the most popular apps in the country.
In 2022, the number of Douyin users is expected to increase to 639.4m. This figure shows that a large part of the Chinese population uses the platform, which in turn can be an opportunity for brands. Insider Intelligence predicts that TikTok will probably have close to one billion users by 2025.
In fact, it's never existed there. Instead, there's a different version of TikTok — a sister app called Douyin. Both are owned by Beijing-based parent company ByteDance, but Douyin launched before TikTok and became a viral sensation in China.
As of November 2022, one in every three Douyin users in China were below 26 years old. The video-based social networking platform, known as TikTok internationally, attracted a total of 730 million monthly active users in its home country as measured in November 2022.
The largest proportion (25%) of US TikTok users are 10 to 19 years of age. In fact, 47.4% of TikTok users are under 30. The share of TikTok users decreases in size as age groups advance. Perhaps unsurprisingly, those aged 50+ make up the smallest share of TikTok users at just 11%.
It is stated that approximately sixty percent of the Douyin streaming users in China are under 30 years old [14]. In the United State, 32.5 percent of the total TikTok uses lies in the age group from 10 to 19, followed by a 29.5 percent of users aging between 20 and 29 [15].

TikTok's sister app Douyin has amassed 743 million monthly active users in China in December 2022. Apart from Douyin, Bytedance also owned other beloved short video platforms Xigua Video and Huoshan Video in the Chinese market.
Unless you're in Mainland China, there is no way that you can find Douyin on your App Store or Play Store. For this reason, you need to go to Douyin's official website and get the installation files there.
Douyin, which like TikTok is owned by ByteDance, said in a statement it is now authorised to use Tencent Video content and rules about how secondary content can be generated have been clarified.
So how does Douyin actually make money from livestreaming e-commerce? If you guessed “by commission,” you would only be half-correct, as the platform actually charges very little — typically 1%–5% of sales value, depending on the category of goods being sold.
According to a report released by Sensor Tower on Thursday, in February 2022, TikTok and its sister app Douyin earned more than $258 million in the global App Store and Google Play, twice as much as the same period last year, once again ranking it first in the global non-game mobile application revenue list.
The app is letting users restrict their videos so only viewers only the age of 18 can watch. In a blog post, TikTok announced an expansion of its Content Levels, which group the app's users by age and restrict the content seen by younger groups.
Fact: TikTok's parent company ByteDance Ltd. was founded by Chinese entrepreneurs, but today, roughly sixty percent of the company is beneficially owned by global institutional investors such as Carlyle Group, General Atlantic, and Susquehanna International Group.
It is no surprise that the cheeky, adorable star Dear, also known as Dilraba Dilmurat, is the queen of Douyin. With more than a 150 million likes, Dear is undoubtedly the celebrity who boasts the most followers on the platform. The Uygur native rose to fame soon after she joined the platform.
Restrictions for young users
They can't use the app from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Douyin has restrictions in place for users under 14 years old. For years, China has tried to curb video game addiction and other unhealthy online habits.
Douyin is only available in the China mainland version of the App Store.
In mainland China, ByteDance operates Douyin, which is targeted at the domestic market. TikTok is its global app that is available in most other countries. It was also available in Hong Kong until TikTok pulled out of the market in 2020 following the imposition of a sweeping national security law.
Douyin ( 抖音, meaning “shaking sound” in Chinese) is China's leading destination for short-video content.
Therefore, global TikTok is more art-based, with musicians, dancers, and so on, while Douyin is skills and lifestyle-tips-based, with automatic voiceovers with no personal touch.
Douyin makeup is actually an umbrella term for a broad makeup style, defined by soft and ethereal looks that give a doll-like appearance. The name comes from the social media app, Douyin, which ByteDance created in 2016 and is exclusive to China.
TikTok and Douyin will account for more than 5% of global digital ad spend this year. The forecast: Ad revenues for short-video-sharing app TikTok and Chinese sister app Douyin will hit $31.66 billion this year to account for 5.3% of the global digital ad market.
Considering that Android users in China have to download the app from third-party stores (as Google Play is banned), Douyin has successfully established a strong international presence, especially in Asian countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin have been downloaded more than 2 billion times globally on the App Store and Google Play, according to new data released by Sensor Tower, underlining the popularity of the short video platform in the face of the global health crisis and growing scrutiny from Washington.
