If you prefer a different email service or want to finally get rid of that embarrassing username you created years ago, it's easy to move on from your account. Deleting a Gmail account is permanent. After going through the process, all of your emails and account settings will be erased.
Delete Gmail
Go to your Google Account. On the left, click Data & privacy. Scroll to "Data from apps and services you use." Under "Download or delete your data," click Delete a Google service.
There are many good reasons to delete an email account you no longer use, including the desire to make it impossible for hackers to breach it and steal your emails. The good news is that deleting an email account is often just as easy as creating it, especially with our step-by-step instructions.
From the main Outlook window, select File in the upper left corner of the screen. Select Account Settings > Account Settings. Select the account you want to delete, then select Remove.
Deleted messages get moved to a Deleted Items folder, where they are held for 30 days and then automatically purged.
Can I change my email name without creating a new account? It depends on your mail service provider. Most providers don't allow you to alter your account name, but some will give you the option of creating an alias to your existing mailbox.

Both the original message and the recall message are received in the recipient's Inbox. Assuming the original message has not been read, the original message is deleted and the recipient is informed that you, the sender, deleted the message from his or her mailbox.
Do unused Gmail accounts get deleted? Google no longer completely deletes Gmail accounts due to inactivity. However, if a Gmail account has not been used for more than 24 months, the data stored in the account (messages, files, photos, etc.) will be deleted.
After some period of time, it should be safe to delete or disable your old email address. Some people wait as long as one year to ensure all entities, including state and local taxes and bills, have been changed. In addition, as soon as you perform these steps, you should not send any email from your old email address.
Note: The Delete account option removes the account from the Mail and Calendar apps, but does not affect the account itself. For example, if you remove an Outlook.com account from the Mail and Calendar apps, you can still access that account using another email client or on the web at https://outlook.com.
Important: When you close your Microsoft account, your email and contacts are deleted from our servers and can't be recovered.
If you don't want another email account connected to Outlook.com, you can remove it from Outlook.com. You'll only be removing the connection and not the email account or messages.
Your emails and mail settings will be deleted. You can no longer use your Gmail address to send or receive email. If you change your mind, you may be able to get your Gmail address back. Your Gmail address can't be used by anyone else in the future.
Deleting removes emails from your inbox. It does save up space, but you won't be able to ever again access your emails. This puts you at risk both in financial and legal terms. You won't be able to produce evidence for ediscovery and litigation.
Deleting your Gmail account will erase all of the messages saved to it, and you won't be able to send or receive emails using it anymore. But deleting your Gmail account isn't the same as deleting your entire Google account. This means that you'll still be able to use other Google apps like YouTube or Docs.
Most email services do not allow you to change your existing email address. In order to change your email address, you'll need to create a new account. You can use the same email service you've been using, or you can take this opportunity to switch to a service that better meets your needs. Decide on an email service.
