Kindness may look like…
Performing small gestures in public just to make someone's day. Being there for someone when they need help and not expecting anything in return. Volunteering in your community. Showing genuine compassion to others.
Kindness is often expressed through actions that you take for other people, while niceness typically involves more superficial words or simple gestures. A nice person may tell a neighbor that they are sorry that they are sick — while a kind person may drop off some soup or offer to pick up groceries for them.
You treat everyone around you with equal respect and decency. A kind person will be courteous and respectful to their family, friends, and even strangers. It requires genuine kindness and compassion to inspire others to maintain their dignity, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Kind people don't have to work at caring about others or being nice. This is just who they are. Many do not even realize they are kind according to The Power of Positivity, because they are just being themselves.
KINDNESS means being considerate, courteous, helpful, and understanding of others. Showing care, compassion, friendship, and generosity. Treating others as you would like to be treated. A kind person shows concern for the feelings of others and is helpful and generous.
Kindness is being generous with others, giving your time, money, and talent to support those who are in need. Kindness is being compassionate, which means to really be there for someone, listening intently to their suffering or just sitting with them and silently supporting them.
Signs You're a Nice Person
You feel compassion and empathy for others. You give people genuine compliments. You listen to what other people have to say. You take responsibility for your mistakes.
They treat everyone with respect.
They understand that no matter how nice they are to the people they have lunch with, it's all for naught if those people witnesses them behaving badly toward others. Genuine people treat everyone with respect because they believe they're no better than anyone else.
Good-hearted people are selfless and care about the world around them. They do good deeds to make the world a better place for everyone, even if it doesn't benefit them directly. They have an optimistic mindset and they see good in everyone.
Niceness, then, is often expressed through words or gestures, while kindness is often expressed through acts. Thinking about it this way, you can see that it is possible to be nice without being kind or to be kind without being nice.
Another nice benefit: It can increase your attraction levels. Studies have shown that people rate others as more desirable if they embody compassionate traits — kindness, selflessness, mindfulness, empathy — to some degree.
Kindness is also respecting others (people, nature, animals etc) by being aware and empathizing. Being kind is not just being respectful but generous with our thoughts too (intentions). At the end of the day, we can list out everything kindness is not. Like being judgmental is not kind.
When you express authentic kindness, you tend to believe that you are a kind person and that you have inherent worth as a person. However, people-pleasing often stems from the belief that your value is entirely based on your ability to be of assistance to others.
Empathy is instinctive
Human brains are hardwired for empathy, because we associate those near to us – friends, partners, family members – so closely with our own selves, say psychologists at the University of Virginia. It stands to reason, then, that being kind to cheer someone up makes us feel good too.
Authenticity comes from being honest. Being able to admit fault and apologize is a quality that is sadly, sometimes rare. But doing so shows that she listens, and she understands. It shows that she cares enough to hear you, hear other perspectives, and not let the need to be right trump what actually is right.
Qualities that form the foundation of all other human qualities include honesty, integrity, courage, self-awareness, and wholeheartedness. These qualities define who we are as human beings.
Being polite and respectful is a hallmark of a kind person. If you treat people the way you want to be treated, then you're showing respect to others and you're a better person than most. A kind person doesn't put others down to make themselves better.
"These include positive intentions, putting the brakes on anger, restraining addictive impulses, extending compassion and helpfulness to others, grit and determination, lovingness, courage, generosity, patience, and a willingness to see and even name the truth whatever it is," Hanson wrote on Psychology Today in 2013.
Nice people make an effort to listen to people attentively, rather than continually speak about themselves. They listen, take in what the other person is saying and empathize. Empathy is one of the most important human qualities.
They are kind in heart, and they are genuine in how they care, and it shines in every act they do. “One who is kind is sympathetic and gentle with others. He is considerate of others' feelings and courteous in his behavior. He has a helpful nature. Kindness pardons others' weaknesses and faults.
On an individual level, there's substantial evidence that engaging in kind acts and pro-social behaviours can: boost the giver's happiness, life satisfaction and positive affect. nurture a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life. reduce the risk of some mental illnesses like depression.
