Lift pits: – Minimum depth of lift pit required is 1.5 meter. The lift pit should be completely watertight. M.S. ladder to be provided for access to the lift pit.
Usually, a common residential lift is usually 3′ wide by 4′ deep or 0.91 x 1.22 m in dimension. The space required for lift in home depends on the width of the elevator door.
The concrete slab also needs to be at a certain depth to safely install a car lift. A minimum of four inches of reinforced concrete is the standard, however, ideally, you should have at least six inches, and as much as twelve.
The recommended thickness for a car lift concrete slab is 4 inches minimum for most two-post lifts and four-post lifts. Additional thickness may be required for specific applications or different car hoist models.
Here are our tips for making sure your installation is an uplifting experience. Some of manufacturers standards for a 2-Post and 4-Post Lifts require a minimum 4 inches of reinforced concrete slab to be safely installed.
2) Drill to a minimum depth of 4 in. to make sure maximum holding power is achieved. Drilling thru concrete (recommended) will allow the anchor to be driven thru the bottom if the threads are damaged.
As per IS 15259:2002 Clause 5, a home lift shall have a load capacity of not less than 204 kg (three passengers) and not more than 272 kg (four passengers), and a car speed not exceeding 0.2 m per second. Also, a two-person lift is not recommended for various technical reasons.
In general, you need at least 20 to 25 square feet of space to install a residential elevator. You might also need about 8 inches of pit space dug into the ground beneath the elevator, depending on the style of residential elevator you plan to use.
A general two-post lift requires 11-12 feet of clearance, while four-post lifts have a higher garage ceiling requirement.
For example, standard dimensions for the most common lift sizes in a residential building are 910 mm x 1220 mm with a 910 mm door width. However, the standard dimensions for the most common lift sizes in an office building are 1830 mm x 1530 mm with a 1220 mm door width.
Typical Elevator Dimensions in Feet
Usually, residential elevators are 36 inches (3 feet) wide and 48 inches (4 feet) deep, but choosing a larger cab size is an option if you have ample space.
Elevator cars must have infra-red protection between 50mm and 1550mm above floor level. The landing button must be located 900 to 1200 mm from the floor. The car control button must be 700 to 1250 mm from the floor. All passenger lifts must be provided with a warning sign at every landing.
In Australia, the AS 1735 standard is what ensures proper safety compliance for lifts and escalators.
Measurements for travel, pit depth and overhead are very critical and must be within ¼" (6mm). 14" (356 mm) minimum pit depth. A substantial, level pit floor slab to support loads indicated on the Federal Elevator drawings.
How many elevators are required in your apartment building? Standard passenger lifts are required in apartment buildings which are: More than three storeys. Where the floor area of each storey (other than the entrance storey) exceeds 200m2.
The guidance states that any managed housing with more than 2 floors should be fitted with a passenger lift.
Outdoor stairlifts accessible lift only, designed for external use and constructed from weather-resistant materials, typically do not require planning permission unless they involve significant alterations to the property or compromise the building's structural integrity.
Typically, they have minimum dimensions of 1500mm x 1500mm, and maximum dimensions of 2000mm x 3000mm; standard wall thicknesses can range between 125mm to 140mm. Such shafts are not only pre-assembled, but can be fitted out with all required equipment. On site, they are craned into position, one on top of the other.
There are core lifts, there are supplemental lifts, and there are ancillary lifts. A strength program needs to incorporate all three types of lifts to achieve balance and athleticism.
Anchor bolt installation Summary
Make sure that the concrete floor depth can support the required anchor bolt depth: Expansion anchors must have minimum 3-1/4” (8mm) embedment. Chemical anchors must have minimum 4” (10mm) embedment.
A 5/8” concrete wedge anchor requires a 5/8” hole to be drilled into the concrete. The hole in the concrete needs to be drilled a minimum of 1/2” deeper than the concrete wedge anchor will penetrate into the concrete.
The minimum effective embedment length for anchor bolts is four bolt diameters (4db) or 2 in. (51 mm), whichever is greater (see Figure 2).
There are many factors that will determine the best place to mount your two post lift. If you have unlimited garage space, then there is really no restriction as to where you can install your lift… assuming you have the correct ceiling height and an adequate amount of space in front of and behind the columns.
