If you're losing followers, it could be as simple as an Instagram glitch. Some accounts are seeing their follower count decrease only to see it go right back up again within a few days. Or it could be a mass cleanup by Instagram where they're going through and removing inactive accounts or bot/spam accounts.
Instagram followers may unfollow you for several reasons. This includes low-quality content, too many promotional posts, an inconsistent posting schedule, and a sudden change in your audience's content preferences.
It appears the sudden drop in follower count was actually due to an Instagram glitch. Last November, Instagram announced it would start removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to generate popularity on the platform.
If your Instagram is suddenly losing followers, then it's probably because you've been hit by the infamous 'shadow ban'. This can be because you've been using unauthorised software, spamming (irrelevant) hashtags or posting controversial content.
To do this, go to your profile on Instagram and click on the "Followers" option. This will show you a list of all the people who are following you on Instagram. You can then compare this list with a previous one to see if anyone has unfollowed you.
We want to create the best possible experience for everyone on Instagram. That means spam, fake accounts and other people and posts that don't follow our Community Guidelines may be removed from Instagram.
If they are a friend of yours, simply message them on another platform or ask them in person to follow you once more. If they aren't affiliated to you, you can send them an Instagram DM asking for them to follow you again or you can try following them and see if they follow back.
A common way to fix this is to "force" your follower to clear by doing a companion's mission like "Dragon seekers" or to simply use console commands to clear your follower. And when I do that, it seems fixed. I can ask people to follow me again.

When your account has a lot of ghost followers that don't engage with your content, this lack of interaction affects your post's visibility. Not only is it less likely to appear in your fake followers' feeds, but it's also less likely to show up in your other followers' feeds.
To do this, go to your follower list, find the ghost followers, and click the three dots next to their name. Then select "Remove Follower." This will remove the ghost follower from your account, and they will no longer be able to follow you or view your content.
