On the worksheet, select just the cells that you want to lock. Bring up the Format Cells popup window again (Ctrl+Shift+F). This time, on the Protection tab, check the Locked box and then click OK. On the Review tab, click Protect Sheet.
Select the cells you need to protect their formatting but only allow data entry, then press Ctrl + 1 keys simultaneously to open the Format Cells dialog box. 2. In the Format Cells dialog box, uncheck the Locked box under the Protection tab, and then click the OK button.
In the new pop-up window, click on the protect sheet, and then again, a new pop-up window will be opened. Enter the password that you want to use to protect the sheet in the password box. Check the boxes next to "Sort" and "Use auto filter," then click OK to close the pop up window.
Scroll down, hover your mouse over View more cell actions, and select Protect range. Alternatively, you can select your cell or range of cells and click on the Data tab on the top menu. Then select Protected sheets and ranges from the drop-down menu.
With the required cells selected, press Ctrl + 1 to open the Format Cells dialog (or right-click the selected cells and click Format Cells), switch to the Protection tab, and check the Locked checkbox.
Select the cells you want to lock. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, click the small arrow to open the Format Cells popup window. On the Protection tab, select the Locked check box, and then click OK to close the popup.
Use the F4 key
The F4 key is the easiest way to lock cell references. Simply select the cell or range of cells that you want to lock, then press the F4 key.
To use the F4 shortcut, simply select the cell reference(s) that you want to change and press the F4 key. If you want to change multiple cell references, you can select them all by holding down the Shift key and then pressing the F4 key.
First, make sure that your function key isn't locked. Some keyboards have a function lock key that can prevent the F4 key from working as expected. Look for a key labeled "Fn Lock" or "F Lock" and try pressing it to toggle the function lock on and off.
Enable or disable Edit mode
, click Excel Options, and then click the Advanced category. Under Editing options, do one of the following: To enable Edit mode, select the Allow editing directly in cells check box. To disable Edit mode, clear the Allow editing directly in cells check box.
Click on the cell(s) you wish to lock. To open the Format Cells pop-up window, navigate to the "Home" tab in your Excel spreadsheet. To do so, select "Format" from the right-hand menu. From the drop-down menu, select "Lock Cell."
In Microsoft Excel and some other spreadsheet programs, pressing Ctrl + F4 closes the active workbook.
When used with the Alt and Ctrl key, the F4 is used to close a program or window in a program. Alt + F4 closes the program window currently active in Microsoft Windows. Ctrl + F4 closes the open window or tab in the active window in Microsoft Windows.
