If your Ring video doorbell or security camera battery is draining too fast, it might be caused by a poor wifi connection. A poor connection can cause your doorbell or camera to frequently disconnect and reconnect to your wifi network, which wastes energy and contributes to battery drainage.
Battery Power
The rechargeable battery that comes included with your Ring Video Doorbell 2 will last approximately 1,000 activations with normal usage before needing to be recharged.
If you've hardwired your battery-operated Ring video doorbell, your Quick Release Battery Pack may occasionally need to be recharged. Unlike a hardwired Ring doorbell (e.g. Ring Doorbell Pro), a battery-operated doorbell does not use the electricity generated by the hardwiring to power its regular operations.
If you opt for the battery-powered one, you'll have to uninstall the entire doorbell to charge it and reinstall it after it's fully charged. Ring says the battery should last between 6 to 12 months on a single charge, but it still depends on how much activity your video doorbell is recording.
The battery should last six to twelve months and should take five to ten hours to recharge, depending of course on usage. Or, if you want to be as environmentally friendly as possible, you can use solar power with your Ring Stick Up Cam Battery.
Overcharging: an overcharged battery can rupture, overheat, catch fire, or explode. Extreme temperatures: extreme cold and heat can affect battery charging. Keep batteries in moderate temperature conditions.
Charging your Ring Video Doorbell battery with hardwiring
Depending on the operations the doorbell is performing, the battery may drain before the hardwiring charge can keep up. Because of this, you occasionally need to recharge your battery.
Can I leave the Battery Packs in the Charging Station even after they're fully charged? Yes. If you have a Quick Release Battery Pack always charged you can be sure your Ring Video Doorbell is never down.
You'll receive a low battery message similar to the motion notices you currently receive. You'll see a red “low battery” icon on your device dashboard. You'll see a red dot that opens into a “battery tip” on your event timeline.
If you've had your Ring Video Doorbell (1st generation) or Ring Stick Up Cam (1st generation) for many years, and the battery won't hold a charge, there's a good chance that your device needs to be replaced.
Installation/Wiring: The Ring video doorbell model is wireless, while the Ring Pro model must be hardwired. Each method has its advantages. Wireless equipment is handy and easy to install, while hardwired equipment tends to be more reliable and you won't need to worry about changing batteries.
If you've just installed a Ring Video Doorbell Pro and now there's a blue LED blinking and a slowly filling-in the circle on the front of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro, the blue circle you see on the front of your Ring Pro is a charging meter.
Don't leave items continuously on charge after the charge cycle is complete – it's best not to leave your phone plugged in overnight for example. Never cover chargers or charging devices – that includes using your laptop power lead in bed.
To maximize the battery's overall lifetime, your doorbell waits for its charge to fall below 90% before using the wired or solar power to recharge it. Share feature requests, get help, and discuss the latest in security with your fellow users on Ring's first neighbor-to-neighbor community forum.
Ring doorbells and outdoor security cameras are water-resistant and designed to withstand normal rainfall and snow. Ring products are not waterproof and shouldn't be submerged in water or sprayed with high pressure water.
This means that a video can remain in your account for up to 180 days – or as little as one day – from the initial recording date. The default video storage time is 60 days (in the US). You can manually adjust your storage time from one day to 180 days in the Ring app or on Ring.com.

Check the power status
Start the app and then, on the Dashboard page, tap the gear-shaped Settings icon atop the camera video. Tap Device Health. In the Power section, you should see the battery level remaining if you are running on battery, or the transformer status if the Ring is running off of house power.
