Glorify His name: The Lord's Prayer starts with Jesus praising God's name. He says, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:9-10) He began with an exhortation to put the prayer in perspective, where God is worthy of all our praise.
1. Know to whom you are speaking. Prayer is a conversation with God, and every conversation begins by addressing the person to whom you are speaking by name. Jesus begins with “Our Father in heaven.”
A Morning Prayer for God's Presence
Lord, may nothing separate me from You today. Teach me how to choose only Your way today so each step will lead me closer to You. Help me walk by the Word and not my feelings. Help me to keep my heart pure and undivided.
- "Help me to be kind and patient." - "Guide me with your wisdom." - "Fill me with joy and gratitude." These short prayers are a great way to take a few moments each day to give thanks to God for everything in our life.
Short Prayers for Blessing
Father God, I ask that you bless my coming and going today. Be before me, behind me, and beside me - protect me and move me toward that which will bring me closer to you. Loving Father, bless my family with peace today.
Opening Prayer: “When Christ took flesh he made his home with us. Let us now pray that he will enter this home and bless it with his presence. May he always be here among us; may he nurture our love for each other, share in our joys, and comfort us in our sorrows. We pray this in the name of Jesus our Lord.”
These three powerful morning prayers are the prayers of thanksgiving, the Lord's Prayer, and the prayer of Jabez. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, the Bible tells us to enter his gates with thanksgiving, and Jabez prayed to God and God granted him his request.
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
You might say, "Dear God," "Our Heavenly Father," "Jehovah," or any other name you have for God. You can even pray to Jesus, if you like. Acknowledge God's greatness. If you have faith in God, you believe he is the creator of the world and all life on earth.
Please know that my thoughts are with you” or “I'm carrying you in my heart.” Would you be comfortable with either of those responses? I'm pretty sure any friend or family member who requests your prayers would be just fine with them.
Here's an example of a morning prayer to give thanks for a new day: Dear Lord, thank you for allowing me to awake to yet another beautiful day. I am grateful for the beauty of the sun and Your other creations. Despite sometimes forgetting to proclaim my thanks, I am overjoyed by the wonders around me.
Dear Lord, This morning as I contemplate a new day, I ask you to help me. I want to be aware of your spirit—leading me in the decisions I take, the conversations I have, and the work I do. I want to be more like you, Jesus, as I relate to the people I meet today—friends or strangers.
Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit. We want you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives. Please guide our path through life and make our enemies be at peace with us.
1.) Dear Lord, I surrender my will, my plan and my ways to you and ask that you be my Lord and take full control of my life this day, amen. 2.) Heavenly Father, keep me in perfect peace and keep me from sinning against you today. Grant me the power to resist evil and temptation in Jesus name, amen.
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Today is a good day to be thankful, and I thank you for our daily bread, Lord. Thank you for helping me today, for a new opportunity to love, to give, and to become the person you want me to be. I praise you today Lord for you are our Father. In Christ's name, Amen.”
A simple prayer could be this: Dear Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for thy guidance in my life. I am especially thankful for my safe travel as I shopped today. As I try and keep thy commandments, please help me to always remember to pray.
A Morning Prayer
Help me to keep my heart pure and undivided. Protect me from my own careless thoughts, words, and actions. And keep me from being distracted by MY wants, desires, and thoughts on how things should be. Help me to embrace what comes my way as an opportunity...rather than a personal inconvenience.
Once you've said all that you wanted to say, you can end your prayer by saying, “In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” We do this because Jesus commanded us to pray in His name.
The most common prayer among Christians is the "Lord's Prayer", which according to the gospel accounts (e.g. Matthew 6:9-13) is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.
