If you are currently receiving social welfare supports such as Jobseeker's Allowance or Jobseeker's Benefit, you will need to close your payment claim if you plan to start working.
You need to tell us if you leave your job and get a severance or redundancy payment. Your Centrelink payment may stop for a period of time. We call this an income maintenance period.

What if I quit my job? If you quit your job, Centrelink may decide you are 'voluntarily unemployed' and you may have to wait eight weeks before you get paid. You won't have to wait though if Centrelink decides the work was unsuitable or that quitting your job was reasonable in the circumstances.
Do Casuals Get A Separation Certificate? Yes, a separation certificate may be required for any applicable employees who have been dismissed or resigned from employment, regardless if they are permanent or casual.
A person who was employed in the 12 months before claiming must provide an 'Employment Separation Certificate' from: their most recent employer, and. any other employer who may have paid a leave payment sufficient to cause an IMP to be imposed.
You need to tell us about a change in your circumstances within 14 days. If you don't, we may pay you too much. This means you'll have a debt you need to pay back. If your circumstances change it may also affect the child support payments you make or receive.
