For antique or colored porcelain, hydrogen peroxide and oxygen bleach are the most effective household cleaners for tough stains. Line your sink with paper towels, then spray them with hydrogen peroxide until they are thoroughly soaked and clinging to the basin.
Remove Stains from Glazed Porcelain Tiles
You can use a commercial product safe for glazed porcelain tiles or use white vinegar. Use a warm-water wash with vinegar at half strength to remove the stain completely. Mop the area and allow it to sit for ten minutes, and then rinse with a clean warm water bath.
Though popular for being gentler alternatives to harsh chemical cleaners, baking soda, Borax, and even salt can harm the finish of your porcelain fixtures. As gentle as they are, these compounds are still abrasive and will scratch your finish, especially with regular use.
The brown stain is from a large amount of iron in your water. It is closely related to simple rust that you see on metal, which is iron oxide. Your water probably comes from groundwater that filtered through rocks containing iron-rich minerals on its way to the well.
Porcelain is a highly durable material for dental restorations, but it is not entirely indestructible. Stains will not penetrate the surface of quality porcelain restorations unless the porcelain has been damaged by: Highly abrasive toothpastes that wear away the outer glaze of the porcelain.
You can safely use vinegar to clean ceramic or porcelain tiles, whether they are glazed or unglazed. For other types, however, like terracotta, marble or grante, we recommend you look for ph neutral cleaner that will not harm the material.
Do not use cleaning products that contain acids or ammonia (and other harsh chemicals) as these can damage grout and glazed surfaces of the tile. Choose products that are compatible with your grout to avoid damage or discoloration of the grout. Always dry your porcelain thoroughly after cleaning.
Never use a product containing ammonia or bleach (or any type of acid-based cleanser); these can alter the tile color and/or stain the grout. Never use oil-based detergents or wax cleaners. On unglazed porcelain, never use any cleaners that contain dye or coloring.
Weekly cleaning with hot water and dishwashing soap is great, but for deep cleaning, we recommend baking soda and ammonia.
Use on most bathroom surfaces including: porcelain, ceramic tile, shower doors, sinks, bathtubs, white grout and caulk, toilet bowls, and fiberglass. Will not remove rust. Do not use on vinyl, natural stones, mirrors, plastic laminates, wood, fabrics, painted, coated or sealed surfaces, colored grout or wall coverings.
Tile cleaner
If you'd like one product that cleans everything in your bathroom, the famous blue bottle of window cleaner might just be it. Windex can also be used to clean tiles and grout, without causing any damage.
Grab your bucket and fill it up with 1 gallon of hot water then stir in ¼ cup of white vinegar. Vinegar is a tough yet natural cleaning solution that will surely clean up any messes that may be found on your tile. Go on and mop the floor with your vinegar solution. Or use a large sponge.
For white porcelain only, bleach can be used to remove stains; never use chlorine bleach in colored or vintage porcelain, as it can damage the finish. For both white and colored porcelain, liquid oxygen bleach (such as hydrogen peroxide) is a good alternative.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to porcelain surfaces, do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, steelwool pads, gritty washcloths, or abrasive paper towels.
If you want to fix chipped porcelain, you will need a gap-filling adhesive, a porcelain filler, or a touch-up glaze to replace lost material. Make sure your product is paintable if you plan on painting it. If you are joining broken pieces, opt for a strong liquid or gel adhesive that dries clear.
When a polished porcelain tile appears to be stained, it is more often the result of these crevasses filling up with liquid or grime rather than the tile being stained. It is very difficult to stain a porcelain tile due to their impervious nature.
Porcelain tiles tend to be harder, more resilient and more stain-resistant than ceramic tiles. They are one of the easiest types of tile to maintain but their surface can eventually be eroded by the regular use of corrosive chemicals such as ammonia, bleach or acids that can also damage the grout and loosen the tiles.
Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles
Yes! Go crazy with your steam mop on your ceramic and porcelain tile floors. The mop will clean the tile surfaces and the grout, leaving a streak-free surface that's simultaneously disinfected.
While hydrogen peroxide is not normally used for cleaning surfaces, there is nothing in normal glazed porcelain that it would damage. Porcelain is about as unreactive to most things as glass, which is unreactive enough to be used for the bottles that store hydrogen peroxide.
Hygiene: Porcelain tiles have very low porousness, making them easy to clean and disinfect. They are also resistant to stains thanks to this. You don't have to worry about scrubbing them, because they are easy to clean and keep hygienic. This makes them even more attractive for busy households with children and pets.
Cover the stain completely with a thick layer of baking soda powder. For older stains, you can mix the baking soda with water and make a paste before applying it to the spot. Wipe the baking soda or the paste with a dry cloth after a few minutes. Use a clean non-corrosive cloth to wipe the stain completely.
A quick once-over with a cloth sprayed with WD-40 is great for removing soap scum from shower doors and can also prevent mildew from returning. It's also a great way to clean the grout between your bathroom tiles, remove stubborn stains from your toilet bowl, and rust stains on porcelain caused from aerosol cans.
