Superficial myiasis occurs when flies, attracted to open or infected wounds or to odoriferous discharges from the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or vagina, lay their eggs in these areas.
Myiasis occurs predominantly in rural areas with poor hygiene and low education level. [4] Maggots can enter through intact skin or through a wound. They may also enter a body orifice without tissue invasion (pseudo-myiasis).
The primary symptom is a painful swelling that “creeps” throughout the body as the first in star larvae migrate and look for suitable sites for its development. Wound myiasis: occurs as a result of egg deposition on decaying flesh or pus-discharging wounds.
If maggots are currently in your house, that means a fly first found its way into your home through an entry point and decided to lay eggs somewhere. Flies tend to flock to rotting material, spoiled food, or old garbage and use that as their breeding ground.

What can I do about maggots in my bin? Most of the maggots will go when the bin is emptied. Once emptied the bin can be cleaned out with disinfectant or bleach and plenty of water. Use a cleaning product with a fragrance as this will help deter flies in the future.
Generally, maggots live for around five to six days before turning into pupae and eventually transitioning into adult flies.

At first, people have a small red bump that may resemble a common insect bite or the beginning of a pimple (furuncle). Later, the bump enlarges, and a small opening may be visible at the center. Because maggots are intermediate stages in the life cycle of flies, they only live for around 8 – 10 days before molting into the pupal stage and turning into flies.
Females will begin producing eggs 48 hours after they have emerged as an adult. During her adult life, approximately 1-3 months, she is capable of producing 4-5 batches of 100-150 eggs. These hatch within 48 hours into smooth, white legless maggot larvae and after 3 moults mature into pupae.
After covering and leaving for a bit, sweep away the maggots and residue. However, be sure to clean the scraps of food or liquid residue that brought them there, or you could keep attracting a new round of larva. Wipe the area with hot water and vinegar to ensure they don't return.
Maggots emerge from fly eggs that are laid wherever there is a safe place and a fresh source of food for the new brood of maggots to feed on. Mature flies will lay between 75 -150 eggs at a time in places like trash, carrion, feces, or rotting food. These eggs hatch into maggots between 7 - 24 hours.
Jumping without legs may sound as absurd as flying without wings, but it turns out maggots are capable of leaping upwards of 12cm. The tiny insects have been seen catapulting themselves distances of more than 40 times their size.
Maggots can come out anytime, but you would suspect they only come out at night because their eggs cannot be easily seen. Flies lay their eggs and it hatches after 24 hours, so if many of them laid eggs in the morning, there's a chance they'd show up in the next morning.
