This overhanging fold of skin is usually caused by adherence of your hysterectomy scar to the deeper layers. A mini-abdominoplasty can reliably improve this deformity. A mini-abdominoplasty is associated with a shorter scar than a full abdominoplasty as well as a shorter recovery.
Lymphocysts or lymphoceles. Swellings filled with fluid can develop in your stomach (abdomen) after a hysterectomy. These may be lymphocysts or lymphoceles. Sometimes they go away on their own, but if they are larger or causing discomfort, your surgeon may drain them using local anaesthetic and a needle.
You will probably notice that your belly is swollen and puffy. This is common. The swelling will take several weeks to go down. You may take about 4 to 6 weeks to fully recover.
It can take about 6 to 8 weeks to fully recover after having an abdominal hysterectomy. Recovery times are often shorter after a vaginal or laparoscopy hysterectomy. During this time, you should rest as much as possible and not lift anything heavy, such as bags of shopping.
After a hysterectomy, the remaining abdominal and pelvic organs will shift slightly to fill in the space. This shift can cause incontinence as well as other problems. Keeping your pelvic floor muscles strong by doing Kegels and regular exercise can help prevent these problems.
3-6 Months After Surgery
Research has shown that fatigue is the most common, debilitating, and longest-lasting symptom that women have after a hysterectomy. On average, women experience fatigue for three months after surgery, but some women have reported feeling tired for up to six months after the operation.
Panniculectomy is a surgery done to remove stretched out, excess fat and overhanging skin from your abdomen. This can occur after a person undergoes massive weight loss. The skin may hang down and cover your thighs and genitals. Surgery to remove this skin helps improve your health and appearance.
Pannus stomach occurs when extra skin and fat deposits hang from the stomach or belly area on the abdomen. It sometimes occurs after pregnancy or weight changes. The excess tissue from a previous body shape can hang down, varying in length and size.
What is an apron belly? Pregnancy, weight loss, and weight gain can cause you to have an excessive amount of fat, tissue, and skin hanging down from your abdomen. Called “apron belly” because it looks like you're wearing an apron around your waist, it can also be referred to as a pannus stomach.
A pessary is a device that can be inserted into the vagina to support the bladder. Internal measurements of the vagina are taken to determine the size of pessary needed.
Bowel movements may take 4-5 days to get back to normal. Your first bowel movement should occur 4-5 days after surgery. For weeks (which can sometimes persist for months) bowel function could be impaired because of surgery and pain medication.
Weeks 2-4 After Hysterectomy
Most women can comfortably increase their continuous walking by approximately five minutes per week after their hysterectomy surgery. By the end of week four you may be able to walk continuously for twenty minutes.
The most common complications of hysterectomy can be categorized as infectious, venous thromboembolic, genitourinary (GU) and gastrointestinal (GI) tract injury, bleeding, nerve injury, and vaginal cuff dehiscence.
Six weeks after surgery: Your healthcare provider will perform a vaginal exam. Your practitioner will also examine your incision site to look for bruising or swelling, which should be gone by this point.
Feeling very tired for quite a few weeks after a hysterectomy is normal but often takes a woman by surprise because she is otherwise often feeling much better. A combination of adequate rest and gradually increasing activity are important for helping you get back to full strength quickly.
Possible causes of an abdominal lump include hernias, lipomas, hematomas, undescended testicles, and tumors. These can appear as an area of swelling or a bulge that protrudes from the abdominal area. Abdominal lumps can be hard or soft and may feel sore. However, they may also appear with no additional symptoms.
