Make sure to sleep on your back with your head elevated using 2 pillows for 3 nights-this will ensure that the newly injected filler stays in place. Another option would be to use a wrap around neck pillow to stabilize your head.
Try to sleep on your back for 24-48 hours after filler injections. After that, you can safely sleep on your side without worrying that the filler will move with gravity.
Best Sleeping Positions After Filler Treatment
Sleeping on your back is the safest position after any cosmetic procedure. The first night after your treatment, sleep with your head elevated (propped up with an extra pillow) to help avoid/reduce swelling and to ensure that the newly-injected filler stays in place.
Don't lie down
This will help prevent the accidental migration of any of the neurotoxin and avoid bruising. For the same reasons, you should also avoid sleeping on the side of your face you've had Botox performed for the first night following your treatment.
Most patients will appreciate immediate results following their filler treatment. However, it can take anywhere from 7-10 days following injection to see the “final result” (when the treatment fully settles and any procedure-related swelling or bruising fully subsides).
Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer.
You don't want to lie down immediately after treatment because there is a remote possibility that your neurotoxin might migrate from the injection-site. (Although the chances of this occurring are small, it's always better to be safe than sorry!)
Swelling will reach its peak at around 24-72 hours after treatment, at which point, it will begin to gradually subside. Occasionally, swelling can last for 1-4 weeks, but this isn't as common. Most people do see an improvement within 3 days.
Lying on your stomach or your side during the settling period can move the formula out of place and interfere with your treatment results. Sleeping on your back helps keep fillers in place while they settle.
Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.
Filler Warnings
Filler fatigue is caused by a decrease in skin elasticity, fibrosis, and the creation of an unnaturally wide face. All of these changes can occur not only because of excessive use of collagen-inducing fillers such as calcium hydroxyapatite but also owing to the overuse of hyaluronic acid.
In some cases, we recommend our patients massage their fillers following treatment to smooth them out below the skin; however, too much massage too soon may cause the filler to migrate slightly.
– Salty & sugary foods – could cause you to excessively lick the lips, which could cause sensitivity or even infection. – Hot & cold drinks – these could lead to developing blisters or even burns, as your lips will be particularly sensitive.
In rare cases, facial fillers like Juvederm can migrate to another site of your face within a few days of your injections. This happens when the filler moves before it has fully bonded with your facial tissue.
Why do dermal fillers cause swelling? Dermal Fillers commonly cause swelling and sometimes even bruising. The injection process disturbs the skin and soft tissue, causing minor trauma to the area, and swelling is a natural bodily response whilst the area heals.
Usually, the lip filler swelling stage lasts for about two weeks. But if it doesn't go away after 14 days, you should call your doctor right away to book an appointment. About two weeks after getting your lip fillers, the swelling should start to settle down.
Treating with 1ml at a time is certainly appropriate for some areas, such as volumising lips or having smaller tweakments into other areas of the face. Sometimes, however, more than 1ml may be required – in the cheeks, for example – as 1ml may not make a discernible difference.
Within the first 24 hours, stick to light walking only. Yoga might seem like a good alternative to a tough workout, but bending over or lying prone increases risk of bruising and can also spread the neurotoxin. Keep yourself upright for at least 4 hours after your Botox or filler treatment.
Can I sleep on my side after having Botox®? Yes, provided you wait at least four hours before lying down. Botox® takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straightaway could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation.
The Results Improve Over Time
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas for about 6 hours after the injections. The treated areas can be washed with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil® Cerave® or Dove® unscented. Your satisfaction is important to us!
