Place the insertion point in front of the text you want to tab, then press the Tab key.
You shall use the following two properties: margin-left - To indent an entire block of text. text-indent - To indent only the first line of text.
Increase/Decrease Indent
To increase indent of the selected paragraph, press Ctrl + M. To decrease indent, press Ctrl + Shift + M.
You can indent a paragraph by pressing Ctrl+M (indents the left margin to the next tab stop) and you can justify it by pressing Ctrl+J (makes sure the text extends all the way from the left to the right margin).
Go to Home and select Line and Paragraph Spacing > Line Spacing Options at the bottom of the menu. The Paragraph dialog box opens. On the Indents and Spacing tab, select the options you want, and click OK. The Paragraph dialog box options are described in Adjust indents and spacing.
In many types of documents, you may want to indent only the first line of each paragraph. This helps to visually separate paragraphs from one another. It's also possible to indent every line except for the first line, which is known as a hanging indent.
Indent the first line of a paragraph with text-indent
Pixels (px), em, rem, even percentage (%) units will work. Using a relative unit like percentage will change the amount of indentation based on the width of the webpage. The wider the webpage, the larger the indent will be.
The HTML entity is useful for controlling text wrapping. You can add it between two strings to make sure that the strings aren't separated over two lines if the text wraps onto a new line. You can also use to create a tab space, which is often two or four space characters long.
To indent is to begin text with a blank space between it and the margin. When you're writing an essay, you can indent the first sentence of each paragraph.
Block quotations start on their own line. The entire block quotation is indented 0.5 inches, the same as the indentation for a new paragraph, and is double spaced. Block quotations are not surrounded by any quotation marks. The punctuation at the end of the block quotation goes before the citation.
In a composition, an indentation is a blank space between a margin and the beginning of a line of text. The beginning of this paragraph is indented. Standard paragraph indentation is about five spaces or one-quarter to one-half of an inch, depending on which style guide you follow.
Indents. Word provides four types of indents: first line indent, hanging indent, right indent and left indent.
Every succeeding paragraph should be indented; the tab key on any keyboard will do this for you. For certain kinds of writing, such as technical reports and business letters, there is another format which is sometimes preferred.
