For regular wash, add ½ cup of Super Washing Soda to the washing machine drum along with the usual amount of either liquid or powder detergent at the beginning of the wash cycle. (Always follow machine instructions when adding laundry products.) Add clothes and let washer fill completely.
Simply add the required amount to the detergent drawer, along with your usual washing powder, or directly into the drum. If you have particularly stubborn stains, dirty workwear or washable nappies to tackle, you may want to consider using Soda Crystals Laundry Boost which has added oxygen bleach.
If your washing machine is a front loader, you can simply add a cup of dry baking soda to the inside of the drum. Then, load in your clothing, add store-bought or homemade laundry detergent to the dispenser, and start the machine. Baking soda should not be added to the automatic dispenser.
All that's needed is some baking soda and white vinegar set on a normal cycle to clean or remove smells from a front loader or top loader washing machine. The more regularly it is done, the easier it will be to clean.
Although mixing vinegar and baking soda is not considered dangerous, you should still avoid mixing these in a container. Vinegar is acidic and basic soda is basic, so the by-products are sodium acetate, carbon dioxide, and water that are not toxic.
Add in about two cups of baking soda directly into the washing machine. This is going to gently scrub the inside and combat those stale, moldy odors that are left behind via old soap and fabric softener deposits.

“It will help lift dirt and grime from clothing,” says Reichert. Don't put baking soda in your washer's detergent dispenser, however. Instead, sprinkle it into the empty drum of your washer, then add clothes and whatever detergent and fabric softeners you'd normally use.
For cleaning the machine: Add 1 cup of baking soda into the drum and then run your machine on the hottest possible cycle. For extra cleaning power, “You can also put some baking soda on a sponge or microfiber cloth and scrub the inside of the drum prior to running the cycle,” Maker says.
Add ½ cup baking soda with your detergent to freshen your laundry and help liquid detergents work harder. Use baking soda instead of fabric softener. Add 1/2 cup at the rinse cycle. Add 1/2 cup baking soda (only 1/4 cup for front-loading machines) with the usual amount of bleach to increase whitening power.

Borax is most effective in hotter water, while washing soda is perfect for any temperature.

Although vinegar and baking soda shouldn't be harmful to your washing machine if used in moderate amounts, extreme use can impact some of the coatings on the drive shaft components, which are the parts responsible for switching cycles from agitate to spin.
It's the exact same substance, just with a different name. So when you see the words 'baking soda' in an American cleaning recipe then go ahead and use bicarbonate of soda. The results will be exactly as intended.
"Baking soda is basic and vinegar is acidic," says Bock. "When you put them together you get mostly water and sodium acetate. But really, just mostly water." Plus, vinegar causes baking soda to foam up. If stored in a closed container, the mixture can explode.
For really tough black mold removal, mix two parts baking soda with one part white vinegar and one part water. Stir the mixture until it becomes a thick paste. Spread your mixture liberally onto the surface and let it dry. Scrub away the black mold and stains, and wipe down with water.
How to clean a front-load washer: For a super quick washing machine refresh that will take you less than 30 minutes, add white vinegar to a spray bottle and spritz the inside of the drum. Wipe all around the washer drum with a microfiber cloth, leaving no surface untouched.
Go natural with a vinegar solution
'I mix equal parts warm distilled water and white vinegar in a spray bottle to apply liberally to the seals and drum,' Tamara says. 'I then scrub with a clean cloth or soft-bristled brush, leave it to sit for 15 minutes or so, then wipe and dry with a clean towel. '
Pour 2 cups white vinegar into the detergent dispenser. Sprinkle 1/3 cup baking soda in the washer drum. Run a complete clean cycle with hot water to destroy smelly mold and mildew.
