When you wash your face, it's important to use a gentle face soap around your nose in order to avoid irritating the area, so avoid cleansers with an exfoliating or scrubbing agent, like microbeads. You can also moisturize, but it's a good idea to keep your nose dry since that helps with proper healing.
Cleanse Cautiously
To eliminate any dirt and excess oil from your face, softly sweep it over the area around your bandages. It's safer to only use micellar water once after surgery because you don't want to splash the skin or get your bandages wet during your recovery period.
How long after rhinoplasty can I wash my nose? You can start washing the outside of your nose after 7-10 days, once the splint covering the surgery area has been removed. Make sure you do this gently until your nose fully heals in 4-6 weeks. At that point, you may wash your nose as normal.
Use Q-Tip & Hydrogen Peroxide
Using a Q-Tip and hydrogen peroxide is a safe, effective way to clean and disinfect your nose and rhinoplasty incisions, but should only be done after any packing has been removed from your nose and face.
Once the bandage has been removed, gentle and regular cleansing with a simple toner should help. But ensure that you don't rub, massage or wipe too hard. Some exfoliators are fine to use but avoid aggressive exfoliators, as the nasal skin can be extremely sensitive in the early stages following surgery.
Park's warning instead: "Extracting or squeezing blackheads around the nose should be avoided for about one-month post-rhinoplasty," she says, noting that this includes getting such done via a facial. "It is critical to avoid placing excess pressure on the nose for the first two weeks after rhinoplasty, too."
After a few weeks, you will notice some crusts, bumps, and ridges or irregularities inside your nostrils. These are completely normal, and will resolve slowly on their own. It may be tempting to try to remedy these yourself, but doing so could very easily disrupt your nasal tip permanently.
Your nose surgeon might advise you to avoid regular skincare or makeup for the first two weeks. We will schedule frequent clinic visits during this time to help with drainage and swelling.
On average, patients can expect breathing through the nose after rhinoplasty to feel more comfortable after 1 – 3 weeks, though some patients may have a feeling of nasal congestion for several months.
In general, after rhinoplasty, patients wear a nasal splint for 1 week. Once the splint is removed, the face and nose can be gently washed with a gentle face wash. At 7-10 days, you can return to using your normal facial products with care to not rub the nose firmly.
After a rhinoplasty procedure, don't be surprised if your smile is temporarily affected by post-operative swelling. The effect is temporary and your smile will return to normal after the initial swelling has dissipated. This may take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.
Use a mild, hypoallergenic cleanser that doesn't contain harsh chemicals or fragrance. You can start to apply makeup when the epidermis, or the top layer to the skin has healed. Most estheticians recommend a mineral-based makeup soon after surgery, as it's gentler on the skin.
Use the irrigation bottle/method (e.g. NeilMed Sinus Rinse) mixed with a sterile saline solution at least two times per day (one ENTIRE bottle per nostril).
After rhinoplasty surgery, your nose will be extra vulnerable as a result of the changes made to this structure. Your bones, cartilage, and surrounding tissues will be more fragile as they heal, sometimes for up to a year after surgery.
Smiling and laughing 2 weeks after a Rhinoplasty should not have any impact on the final result.
The answer largely depends on what your doctor recommends, but usually patients will be able to wash their face within a few days of the procedure. Unless you have splints that need to stay dry before its removal, you should be able to maintain personal hygiene soon after coming home from the procedure.
All strenuous activities, including lifting heavy weights, jogging, aerobic exercises, running, and high impact walking should be avoided. Intense physical movements such as pulling, bending, pushing, and anything that exerts pressure should also be avoided over the first 2 weeks following nose reshaping surgery.
Rinse the nostril 3 to 4 times per day. Cleaning: Some bloody crusts can build up around the nasal openings. Gently clean this with a Q-tip soaked in half-strength peroxide (mix equal amounts of peroxide and water) Do not insert the Q-tip into the nostril any deeper than the end of the cotton portion of the Q-tip.
The tip takes the longest time to heal and mold to the new framework because it's the thickest skin of the nose. If the tip of your nose is still very firm, it may mean that there is still some swelling.
You'll need to sleep in an elevated position for at least one week, however, it's generally recommended that you wait around 10-14 days before returning to your regular sleeping positions.
You do not want the mask to press on the nose or pull down on the tip. Be careful when taking your mask on and off. 6 to 8 weeks after rhinoplasty, you can adjust your mask a little more tightly over your nose if necessary.
Persistent scabs or crust within the nose may be cleaned by the rhinoplasty or plastic surgeon himself/herself with a gentle suction in the office. Patients should not removed anything from the nose themselves, as it may cause bleeding or disrupt healing.
Nasal rinsing is effective at thinning and removing excess mucus. This alleviates congestion, making you more comfortable. However, overuse or long-term use can be unsafe. That's because your sinuses always need a protective lining of good mucus.
Your skin should always be clean and moist. After rhinoplasty, the goal should be to moisturize your skin by preventing dryness. You should make sure that there are no active elements in the moisturizers you choose.
You may gently clean dried blood from the inside of the nose with a Q-tip and dilute hydrogen peroxide. Refrain from blowing your nose or sneezing if possible for 2 weeks. Use saline spray or a bulb syringe for comfort and to help clear drainage. Keep head elevated when resting, and sleep with at least 2 pillows.
