Mebendazole kills worms that cause gut infections such as threadworm (sometimes known as pinworm) and other less common worm infections (whipworm, roundworm and hookworm). It works by stopping the worms using sugar (glucose).
Stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
To treat pinworms, adults and children greater than 2 years old should take 1 tablet on the first day, then 1 tablet 2 weeks later and a third tablet 4 weeks after the first tablet. The first dose will get rid of the worms, but not the eggs that the worm may have left behind.

The majority of the mebendazole dosage administered orally stays in the gastrointestinal system, where it has an anthelmintic action locally. It remains in an active mode with a half-life range of 3-6 hours.

The Deworming Process after a Few Days

Take the correct dewormer
When infected with worms, it should be dewormed periodically, for adults and children over 2 years old should be dewormed 2 to 3 times a year, ie every 4 to 6 months.
Mebendazole is best taken with meals, especially fatty ones (eg, meals that include whole milk or ice cream). This helps to clear up the infection by helping your body absorb the medicine better. However, if you are on a low-fat diet, check with your doctor.

Threadworm Infection
Adults and children over 2 years old: Take one tablet. Repeat after 2-4 weeks. If symptoms are still present a few days after taking the dose, consult your doctor.
The medications used for the treatment of pinworm are either mebendazole, pyrantel pamoate, or albendazole. Any of these drugs are given in one dose initially, and then another single dose of the same drug two weeks later. Pyrantel pamoate is available without prescription.
Can you eat after taking deworming medicine? You do not have to follow a special diet after taking a deworming medicine. You can have regular meals after taking medicines.

Fecal testing (examination of your stool) can identify both helminths and protozoa. Stool samples must be collected before you take any anti-diarrhea drugs or antibiotics, or before x-rays with barium are taken. Several stool samples may be needed to find the parasite.
