The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus are designed to detect motion up to 180 degrees horizontally and from five to 30 feet outward from the fixture. They're also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical.
The motion sensor, encased in a dome on the bottom of the camera, has a 270-degree detection range. The camera streams and records video in up to 1080p resolution and supports two-way talk with noise cancellation and night vision up to 30 feet.
There is no specific distance, given that various different factors can affect the strength of your wifi signal. Typically, we would recommend that your Ring Camera be no more than about 20 to 25 feet from your wireless router. Any farther than that and you're likely to see performance concerns.
Ring Doorbell Features

Researchers at Dojo, an Internet of Things security company, have found that bad actors can intercept your Ring doorbell by accessing the network it uses. This is possible because the data traveling between the Ring device and its application is not encrypted.
The default recording length is set to Auto, and the device will record for up to 120 seconds. Once motion stops, the device will stop recording. As a result, the length of each recording will vary.
Block Off Security Cameras with Grown Trees, Fences or Curtain. Another good way to blind your neighbor's security cameras is to plant a grouping of shrubs or grown trees that are tall enough to block off where the camera is aimed. Also, you can close the curtain or shade on the window to block security cameras.
Camera Access with Ring Alarm
If Ring cameras, doorbells, and Ring Alarm are present at a Location, all Shared Users can access all the cameras and doorbells there by default. This is, however, at the Owner's discretion. An Owner can limit any Shared or Guest User's access to cameras and doorbells at their Location.

By selecting Motion Zones to cover only areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of “false positive” motion alerts (such as cars driving by).
Check your motion zones to see if there is anything that could be triggering a Motion Alert, such as a car, a moving tree, sunlight coming into the video or shadows moving. Try adjusting your motion zones or your Motion Sensitivity slider. Make sure you have enabled the Smart Alerts feature in the Ring app.
Ring uses Z-Wave technology to securely send signals between devices around your home and the Base Station. The range for Z-Wave communication is up to 250 feet between the Base Station and the security device, however, a number of factors may impact that range.

While Ring doesn't have the feature set of Google Nest's Cams (see our full Google Nest Cam review here), their cameras are reliable across the board. There's a reason why they're one of the top-ranked security camera brands out there, after all.
Ring Smart Lights still activate when they detect motion, but you can't control them or get push notifications without a Wi-Fi connection. Ring security cameras do not work without Wi-Fi.
Does the Ring doorbell work only when pressed? While a button press is the best way to know if someone wants to speak to you, Ring video doorbells can also notify you when they detect motion. If you get too many motion alerts, you can adjust the doorbell's motion detection sensitivity in the Ring app.
