E. coli usually goes away on its own. Your child usually doesn't need antibiotics. Do not use over-the-counter antidiarrheal medicine if your child has diarrhea.
Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim (Bactrim, Cotrim, Septra)
First-line therapy for UTI and most E coli diarrheal illness; resistant organisms are fairly common.
Note: E. coli can cause a severe complication that occurs most commonly in young children (age 5 and younger) called hemolytic uremic syndrome. This condition destroys platelets and red blood cells, and leads to kidney failure.
Your child may be infected with E. coli if they are experiencing: Severe stomach cramps. Diarrhea (often bloody diarrhea)
There is no specific treatment for E. coli O157 infection. People who are infected can usually be cared for at home and most will get better without medical treatment. It's important to drink plenty of fluids, as diarrhoea can lead to dehydration.
E. coli is intrinsically susceptible to almost all clinically relevant antimicrobial agents, but this bacterial species has a great capacity to accumulate resistance genes, mostly through horizontal gene transfer.
The cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole are considered as 1st line agents and often used to treat community and hospital infections caused by E. coli.

E. Coli is not spread by coughing, kissing, or through normal, everyday interactions with friends or neighbours. However, once someone has consumed contaminated food or water, this infection can be passed from person to person by hand to mouth contact.
If you develop severe diarrhea (lasting longer than three days or you can't stay hydrated) or if you have bloody diarrhea, go to the hospital for emergency care.
If you have a serious E. coli infection that has caused a life-threatening form of kidney failure (hemolytic uremic syndrome), you'll be hospitalized.
Emptying the bladder roughly every two to three hours will help to flush the E. coli bacteria from the urinary tract before an infection can begin. (The longer urine is held in the bladder, the more likely bacteria will multiply.)

People of any age can become infected with pathogenic E. coli. Children under the age of 5 years, adults older than 65, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop severe illness as a result of an E. coli infection.
Usually little or no fever develops. Healthy adults can typically recover completely from E. coli within one week without any medication.
It is transmitted to humans primarily through consumption of contaminated foods, such as raw or undercooked ground meat products, raw milk, and contaminated raw vegetables and sprouts.

rhamnosus GR-1 can kill E. coli and can disrupt biofilms produced by these microbes (McMillan et al., 2011). Moreover, this strain can modulate aspects of host immunity, including NF-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinases (Kim et al., 2006; Karlsson et al., 2012).
Drink plenty of clear liquids, including water, clear sodas and broths, gelatin, and juices. Avoid apple and pear juices, caffeine, and alcohol. Avoid certain foods. Dairy products, fatty foods, high-fiber foods or highly seasoned foods can make symptoms worse.
People with mild symptoms usually recover on their own without treatment. Antibiotics are not helpful for treating E. coli O157 infections, and may even increase the likelihood of developing HUS.
