In the mirror of God's Word, we can see where we need to change—and we allow God to re-align our hearts with His. The Lord's brother James said the Word of God is like a mirror. When we read the Bible, it exposes what is really in our hearts—our sins, our shortcomings, the areas of life where we need to repent.
It is an old tradition to cover the mirrors in the house of mourning, a custom of great spiritual significance. The mirror gives an external image of what we are, and it is essential in our workaday world to use a mirror to make ourselves presentable.
The apostle Paul writes in I Corinthians 13:12, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known." This verse indicates that everything concerning salvation is undergoing a process of transformation.
