Can I sleep on my side after having Botox®? Yes, provided you wait at least four hours before lying down. Botox® takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straightaway could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications.
After Cosmetic Botox, Be Sure to Sleep on Your Back
Sleeping on your stomach or side can cause Botox to migrate to other areas of your face. This can result in uneven results or even bruising. Sleeping on your back, however, minimizes the risk of it migrating and ensures it stays where it is supposed to.
However, if your procedure involved having Botox in the face, you should sleep on your back. Botox requires time to settle into your muscles and lying on your face may prevent this. The good news is that you only need to avoid sleeping on your face for one night!
To ensure that you get the most out of your experience, we recommend that you don't lie down for 4-6 hours after a procedure. Lying down too soon increases the chances of the Botox migrating to different areas of the face.
In general, you should begin to see results between 24 and 72 hours, but some patients may not see full results for five days or more.
Answer: Botox migration
The botox can migrate either at the time of injection or for a little while afterwards. The effect may only come on after days to 2 weeks later as the botox starts to work. The greater the volume injected the greater the risk of migration.
For your optimal aesthetic outcome, avoid laying on your face after receiving BOTOX. It's recommended that you do not lay down or sleep within 4 – 6 hours of your BOTOX treatment.
Avoid rubbing or touching your face for 24 hours after the injections. In about 48 to 72 hours, you'll start to notice smoother, firmer skin. BOTOX injections will last for up to four months. As the injection formula starts to wear off, you'll need to undergo maintenance injections to maintain your youthful appearance.
However, we usually suggest taking a few precautions to ensure the best results. For example, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours. This means that while it's perfectly safe to wash your face after receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, you should do so with a light hand.
As it will be several hours after Botox administration you can sleep in any position without worry of affecting your results.

Here is a short guide of the do's and don'ts after having Botox. Do not rub or massage the treated area and avoid make-up if possible. Do not have any beauty treatments on your face e.g. facials, facial massage for 2 weeks- this may cause the injected solution to spread to nearby muscles.
In general, you can see the effects of Botox as early as 3 to 4 days after an injection. Dr. Oscar Trujillo, a facial plastic surgeon at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, says most patients will see results within 10 to 14 days but should wait the full 14 days to see the maximum results.
For the first few days after your BOTOX treatment, you can gently wash your face or apply lotions. You can use the same moisturizer and cleanser you always have, as they won't harm your results. However, facials, microdermabrasion, or any other kind of skin treatments should be avoided for at least a week.
After receiving botox, moving your facial muscles through expressive movements such as continuously frowning will maximize the treatments effectiveness. This is done by increasing the uptake of the muscle groups which were targeted by the botox.
Some patients like to sleep on their back the first night after treatment, although there is no hard evidence that sleeping position might affect your filler treatment. Avoid sleeping on your face for a week after treatment.
The reason for this delay is due to the time it takes for the body to start reacting to the Botox after it's been injected. Because of this, we like to have our patients come back after two weeks to check on their progress.
Exercise can raise your blood pressure and induce sweating, which can make the Botox migrate. Sudden increases in blood pressure can force the neurotoxin out of the local muscle that it was injected into. Sweating can prompt you to wipe away the sweat, which can push the Botox out of its intended area.
After Botox is injected it is important not to rub or massage the area, this can cause the product to migrate. However, touching the area one time by accident should not cause any issues.
Avoid heat exposure for 24 to 48 hours, which includes hot showers, tanning beds, hot tubs, and saunas. While alcohol consumption after Botox is not usually a risk, it is recommended you not drink alcohol for 24 hours as a precautionary measure. Alcohol is a blood-thinner, so it could potentially exacerbate bruising.
The reason that keeping your head above your heart is so crucial right after undergoing your Botox treatment is that bending forward may increase blood circulation to your face and increase the risk that the injected material will move from the targeted areas before it is absorbed.
How Soon Will I See Results After Botox? You should begin to see Botox treatments starting to work with a couple days. The effects will become stronger over the ensuing 7 to 10 days. The complete effect is generally seen two weeks after the injection.
The body begins to form antibodies against the product. Eventually the antibodies will block Botox® from working, and the facial muscles will recover very rapidly. At that point, there is little point in getting further injections of Botox®. This resistance process typically takes months or years to complete.
