Different strokes for different folks and all that, but there was a study done in 2008 that found women consider “heavy stubble,” or about ten days of beard growth to be the most attractive length.
Women saw men with full beards to be the most healthy, and the best suited to parenting. As a matter of fact, the study showed that as facial hair length increased, the men were viewed as more masculine. These findings were doubly confirmed by another study published by the Journal of Evolutionary Biology in 2016.
The same UK study referenced by ZME Science notes that light stubble prevailed across the board as a facial hair style women tend to find most attractive. Longer beards, however, signaled more stability and the potential for a long-term relationship, according to a 2016 University of Queensland study.
Women prefer facial hair to be thick, which is why they tend to find this style most attractive. The study also found that although women saw men with heavy stubble to be less ready to settle down than their full bearded counterparts, they also rated them as the most attractive overall.
One of the most important characteristics that most women seek is modesty. Outspokenness, charity, and honesty are further feminine appeal traits that are always observed, along with humility. Nothing appeals to a woman more than a man with a great sense of self.
Short Stubble
For 38 percent of women surveyed between ages 25 to 34, this was the most attractive. 24 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds found this the most attractive and 18 percent of 35 to 44-year-olds agreed. Apparently, women appreciate that subtle five o'clock shadow.
Most men find that 10mm is a great place to keep a short beard without falling into stubble territory and without the beard getting too long to handle.
Science has shown that there is no link at all between testosterone levels and beard length.
Many women like clean-shaven men. They see them as well-groomed, caring, looking good. They like the smooth skin and the "I'm looking after myself and I'm clean" look. Women love men with a well-groomed look, that's obvious.
The health benefits of beards
Beards can: Protect skin from sun damage. Beards can help protect the skin from harmful UV rays, though the degree of protection may depend on hair density and thickness. “You're going to have some protection because hair is a reflective medium,” says Dr.
Genetics also affect where facial hair grows and when your beard reaches its full potential. “From ages 18 to 30, most beards continue to develop in thickness and coarseness,” he says. “So if you're 18 and wondering why you don't have a full beard yet, it just may not be time.”
And while men are not inherently more masculine with a beard, a study of young men and women found that men with beards look more masculine and dominant.
The hard part is then determining what length corresponds to what size beard. Well, let me make that easier for you, too: If you want a 5 o'clock shadow, use 1/16-inch guard, usually a #1 or a #0; if you want a short beard, try a ⅝-inch guard, or even a ¾, sometimes labeled as a #4.
Most men will have a full beard by their early 20s, but some may need to wait until they hit 30 to reach full beard growth. Puberty might initiate the facial hair growing process, but how fast and thick your beard grows will depend on factors that we'll discuss below, including genetics and hormone levels.
In my opinion(and that's the beauty of men's grooming: its subjectivity), the lower edge of the beard should be placed perfectly along the natural bend of the throat, which is usually right at or just above the Adam's Apple. The way I see it, this is where the face stops and the neck begins.
Men with high testosterone can experience a variety of troubling symptoms and possible health consequences. Excess testosterone can lead to more aggressive and irritable behavior, more acne and oily skin, even worse sleep apnea (if you already have it), and an increase in muscle mass.
Long Stubble
For guys that don't want to trim every day, a longer stubble beard around 4 to 6mm gives you a longer beard style that still looks professional and groomed.
The 7 mm beard looks good on most men.
It provides you a more rugged appearance without adding volume to the face and without creating any sharp edges. The 7mm beard is a safe bet for most men, unlike certain other styles for men that may not work for every face shape.
Another study done by a dating site concluded 60 per cent women found men with facial hair attractive. Not just this, almost 50 per cent of the participants chose men with a beard and moustache as ideal partners.
A new study found that women perceive men with facial hair to be more attractive as well as physically and socially dominant. Women tend to associate more masculine faces with physical strength, social assertiveness, and formidability.
Beards can accentuate the very best features of your face. For instance, due to their position on the face, a beard can accentuate your jawline, giving you one worthy of a movie star. A strong jawline is correlated with a higher level of testosterone, which women are pre-programmed to find attractive.
