He dies within ten minutes of a near total shutdown of his suit after throwing Lord Sidious down a reactor shaft, and in Episode III, his heart actually stopped during his transformation before his suit's helmet is sealed. At most, I'd say about ten to fifteen minutes.
If he were to take his mask off, the Sith Lord would soon suffocate. So it's the most crucial part of his armor. The only time he can breathe without the need for his mask is when he is in one of his meditation chambers seen in A New Hope.
Depending on what he is confronting, he could sustain himself for hours. Other sites point to the Star Wars comic Darth Vader #12, in particular, as revealing his ability to live without his suit. The time is probably less than an hour, but it does reflect this use of the Dark Side to stay alive.
No, Darth Vader did not actually die from removing his mask–he died from being deprived of the life-support system in his armor suit. Yes, he can actually breathe without his mask–the power of the Dark Side of the Force can keep him alive.
Darth Vader's Suit Embeds Needles In His Skin
Inside his suit and mask, Vader has a series of needles in his skin. Unfortunately, these needles, which transmit neurological data throughout his body and allow him to control his limbs, also cause him constant pain.
Vader was always in dire need of his suit; that said, he needed it to fall asleep (especially his breathing mechanism) if he wanted to take a quick nap. When Vader did sleep, he was awoken soon after by a disturbing series of visions, sounds and pain, most of which including Obi-Wan or Padme.
Lord Vader was able to chew food, which he could consume while in his meditation chamber. While in the chamber, Vader could remove his helmet and consume regular food, which he preferred. Consuming food orally was the way he preferred eating.
Vader's suit sustained his life. But in the event of its malfunction or severe damage, he also could sustain himself with hatred and pain through the dark side of the Force. It's not a permanent solution, but he could and had done it.

The main story of Vader Immortal only lasts about 30-45 minutes, depending on how quickly you move through it. After you complete the story, there is little reason to return to it other than to relive the same story again.
Eventually, he lost both his legs and his remaining arm in the climactic duel on Mustafar between both he and Obi-Wan. As Vader, he had each limb replaced with cybernetic parts, but would lose his robotic right arm one last time when Luke Skywalker faced his father in Return of the Jedi.
Dark Vader cannot breathe without his mask because his mask is connected to a life support system. His famous black armor suit covers this life-sustaining system.
His armor could be hacked and controlled by a device. In a turn of events, Darth Vader's right limb holding his dangerous scarlet lightsaber was moving of its own accord toward his neck. This was a dangerous weakness indeed.
Apparently, he had borderline personality disorder. As he came of age, Skywalker showed problems with impulsivity, violent outburst, illusions of invincibility and crises of identity, all of which are in line with borderline personality disorder diagnosis, the researchers concluded.
Darth Vader's greatest power is not in his ability to hurl heavy objects at Luke Skywalker with the force. His power lies in his unquestioning belief that he deserves to be the leader. That kind of power inspires people to follow, and it is a big part of what makes Vader so irresistible to audiences.
Yes, he remembers everything about his past (just not based on reality), but he probably doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about it, and when he does, his memory of things is clouded and twisted by the lies of the sith, the dark side, and his own flawed thinking and character.
A break in any of the first three vertebrae leads to complete paralysis from neck to toe. This could explain his immobility after the Emperor's lightning attack damaged his cybernetic systems: without his spinal bionics, Lord Vader becomes a helpless quadraplegic.
The short answer is yes, without a doubt, Vader regretted becoming a cybernetic monstrosity. First, there's the constant pain and discomfort from his suit. Worse, however, is the psychological pain. Vader destroyed everything he had ever known for a chance to save Padme.
1/15 Luke Skywalker
Having faced his father once before, Luke was familiar with his tactics and used the force to gain an upper-hand. In Star Wars Canon, only Luke Skywalker can be acknowledged as the one who truly defeated Darth Vader.
Appealing to the hate and conflict within him, Darth Sidious goaded Luke into attacking. Vader defended the Emperor and he and Luke were locked in mortal combat. Luke lost control of his anger, viciously attacking Vader, finally beating him down and chopping off his hand with his lightsaber.
