Even a few days without brushing can put you at risk of developing an early gum disease called gingivitis. You may notice red, swollen gums or bleeding while you brush and floss (note: you should never bleed while caring for your teeth!).
At about a year, a person is doing severe damage to the health of their teeth and gums by not brushing every day. However, this may not always be the case. Some patients might not develop any cavities after a year of no brushing but have horrible gum disease while some patients may have the reverse.
Some of it depends on your overall health — if your body has a more active immune system, you may be able to fight off some elements of tooth decay. However, one year of built-up tooth plaque would likely lead to cavities, gum disease, and potential tooth loss.
What happens if you don't brush your teeth for a month. At about a month, serious changes are taking shape. The most notable problem a person will have is the presence of gum disease. With the build-up of plaque at the gum line and below the gum line, an individual may notice some swelling and reddening.
Similarly to flossing, your dental team will also be able to tell if you don't brush your teeth often enough or even if you brush too hard. Those who don't brush the recommended two times a day will often have larger areas of tartar buildup and puffy, red gums.
One week without brushing:
After a week, the enamel on your teeth will start to fail. The plaque that hasn't been removed will increase the development of bad breath. Cleaning a plaque-ridden tooth is difficult. If you don't brush your teeth for a week, you're more likely to develop cavities.
People often think tooth loss is normal as they age, but that is not the case. Permanent teeth are made to last, meaning people can keep their natural teeth their entire lives, even if they live to be 100 years old.
Twice daily brushing is best for most people – but once a day is better than nothing! If you decide to brush once a day, consider timing it just before bed or just after waking. Also think about other dental care activities you can do. For example, recent research shows antiseptic mouth wash can help reduce plaque.

Brushing your teeth before bed clears away all the leftover food particles from dinner that are still in your mouth. Going without brushing for a night lets them stay there and attract bacteria in the form of plaque, a sticky substance that feels gross by itself even if it didn't damage your teeth and gums.
When you only brush your teeth once a day, you'll end up with issues such as cavities – especially if the only time you brush your teeth is in the morning and you've let food sit on your teeth all night long. You could also end up with gum disease, if the bacteria that can cause it isn't disrupted soon enough.
Tooth enamel does not grow back, but it can be restored to some degree by remineralization. Using mineralized toothpaste and mouthwash can strengthen your remaining enamel as the minerals will be drawn to the weak spots in your teeth and bond with the surface.

But since it's so deeply ingrained into almost everyone's routine, it might surprise you to learn that about 20% of people aren't properly brushing each morning and evening. If You Want Your Teeth to Fall Out, Don't Brush Them
When left unchecked, periodontitis spreads to your jaw bone and creates spaces that can form pockets between your gums and teeth, causing your teeth to become loose. As your mouth is plagued by gum disease and cavities, your teeth will eventually fall out.
That said, brushing three times or even two times a day is not as significant as what you were made to think. In fact, most experts say that even with just once-a-day brushing, it is already enough to keep bacteria and cavities at bay.
Frequently drinking wine, tea, or coffee and eating certain staining foods affects the shade of your tooth enamel. These foods and beverages leave color particles on your tooth's surface that penetrate your tooth enamel over time, leaving you with yellow or dull-looking teeth.
Twice is enough for most people, but three times won't hurt!
We recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day: once in the morning (i.e. around 30 minutes after breakfast), and once before bed! But if you want to go for three, that's no issue, just as long as you don't brush too hard or too soon after eating!
So while permanent tooth loss can occur at any age as an adult, significant averages in partial and total tooth loss tend to occur in people aged 50 years old and above.
Even though tooth decay and tooth loss is fairly common, it doesn't mean that it has to be common with you. You can avoid oral health diseases and keep your natural teeth for life if you avoid substances that hurt your teeth. Follow an oral hygiene routine every single day and visit the dentist.
All four center teeth, known as bottom and top incisors, usually fall out in the 6-8 year range. The sharp teeth beside them (called canines or cuspids) as well as the first molars leave a little later, around 9-12 years old. The second molars are often the last to go … typically in the 10-12 year range.
You can even write them a note and say you want to talk about it with them. Just show you care and be honest about your feelings so your loved one can be honest about theirs. You may be surprised at the reasons behind your loved one's dental habits.
Lethargy or Laziness. Laziness can also be the cause of no brushing attitude. People who are unconcerned or who simply are too lazy will not put in any effort into brushing their teeth daily, let alone twice a day each and every day.
