When do young robins learn to fly? A. Baby robins jump from their nest when they are about 13 days old. It takes them another 10-15 days to become strong fliers and independent birds.
The young robins stay on the ground for another two weeks, until they're able to fly well enough to venture off on their own. Robins begin breeding when they're about one year old and usually live for two years, though one wild robin was recorded to be 14 years old.

Baby birds: Nestlings and fledglings
If you can locate the nest nearby, the best thing to do is simply place the nestling back in the nest. If you cannot locate the nest, leave the nestling where you found it or move it to a shaded area. The parents will come back. Don't worry, your scent won't deter the parents.
Baby robins can't fly well when they leave the nest. They must build up muscles and grow adult feathers to be strong fliers. The babies are capable fliers just 10-15 days after fledging.
Nestlings cannot survive outside of the nest and will most likely die if they are not re-nested or brought in for care. It is best thing for the nestling to be reunited with its mother. In order to do this, the baby must be warm.
On average, though, only 40 percent of nests successfully produce young. Only 25 percent of those fledged young survive to November. From that point on, about half of the robins alive in any year will make it to the next.

At night, Dad leads them to a roost tree with other dads and babies. The young robins learn how to be in a flock. At first, fledglings hide as much as they can because they are defenseless. Speckling helps hide them.
It's common for young robins to end up on the ground, partly because fledglings have sparse feathers. If find see fledglings and determine they need your help, handle them properly and provide food that fulfills young robins' nutritional needs.

When fledglings leave their nest they rarely return, so even if you see the nest it's not a good idea to put the bird back in—it will hop right back out. Usually there is no reason to intervene at all beyond putting the bird on a nearby perch out of harm's way and keeping pets indoors.
You can feed baby robins at your home until they are ready to fend for themselves. Feed the baby robin mealworms, earthworms or grubs. Place the food onto the ground near an area that is well protected, such under a bush or near a thicket, and allow the baby to devour the meal.

If you do not see any adults near the nest and there is no progress (no hatched eggs, etc.) after four (or more) weeks, the nest may have been abandoned. For a nest containing young, often nestlings may appear to be abandoned when they are actually not.
Fledglings don't make a nest yet, preferring to hide among the available trees and shrubs. They frequently sleep near the nest they have just left in the treetops. They will begin to rest on trees or bushes further away as they hop around and test their wings.
In nature, the parent robins are constantly searching for food and feeding their babies during daylight hours. A baby robin should be fed as much as it can eat at least every half hour from sunrise to sunset. You can take a 2-3 hour break maybe once a day.
Fledglings can find their own food, but their parents will help them if they're having trouble. An important thing to keep in mind is that you should never try to give baby birds food or water—it could end up in their lungs! IMPORTANT: Fledgling birds are often “rescued” when they don't need to be.
Chicks that have not yet opened their eyes may take 5-6 feedings per day (every 3-4 hours). Once birds' eyes open, they can have 3-5 feedings (one every 5 hours). As their feathers start to grow in, they may be fed 2-3 times per day (every 6 hours).
It's usually between 14 and 16 days after hatching that robins will fledge from their nests. After leaving the nest, they will stay nearby with their parents for up to three weeks. In May, these juvenile birds will move away from their natal sites but rarely move more than a few miles/kilometres.
Parents don't encourage fledglings to leave the nest until they are 17 to 21 days old, but an ambitious baby may go exploring on its own, climbing out onto branches within a few yards of home.
Jays and crows eat baby robins during the nesting season, but when they aren't stalking a robin nest, they are very helpful to robins by alerting them of even greater dangers, and sometimes chasing away hawks and owls.
