Your milk may come in anywhere from day 2 to day 6 (usually around days 2-3). If your milk is slow coming in, try not to worry, but put baby to breast as often as possible and stay in contact with your lactation consultant so she can monitor how baby is doing.
Start Breastfeeding Early After a Cesarean Section
For most, milk transitions from colostrum (early milk) to milk coming in by 72 hours of birth. After your baby and your placenta are birthed, your milk-making hormones go into overdrive and cause the cells that make your milk to switch on into production.
Try holding your baby in the underarm (also called 'twin' or 'football') position, with their feet towards your back. Put a pillow on your lap to support your baby and protect your wound. Lie down on your side. Lie in a laid-back position with your baby off to one side (you may need help to get into this position).
For the first 2 to 5 days after your baby is born, you will make a small amount of colostrum, which is all a healthy term baby needs. Colostrum is a thick, rich milk that is high in nutrients. Around day 3 through 5, your milk will come in.
After the birth, a sequence of events initiates milk production whether or not you plan to breastfeed your baby. Although you might not be able to express the colostrum yourself at first, or you might be worried that your milk hasn't come in or is late; true lactation failure is very rare.

Sleepy baby
Babies born by caesarean section may be a little sleepy. They may need some extra encouragement to stay alert during the first few feeds. Skin-to-skin contact will encourage them to latch and feed more often.
Not producing milk after delivery is common, and is not a reason to panic. Newborns typically want to sleep a lot and only need to survive on small amounts of colostrum in the following weeks after they are born.
Sleeping positions to avoid after c-section? Avoid sleeping on your front after a c-section. This can put pressure on your c-section wound and the pain can keep you up or wake you up. Try sleeping on your side, back, on your back with your head elevated, or sat fully up, if no other position is comfortable.
Some parents impacted by the baby formula shortage may be wondering if they can start breastfeeding again. A process known as re-lactation can help patients produce breast milk, even if it has been weeks or months since they did so.
If your breast doesn't feel full of milk, this is usually not a sign of low breastmilk supply. For most breastfeeding problems related to breastmilk supply, the answer is: “more breastfeeding.” Keep breastfeeding, keep pumping, and that will keep stimulating your body to produce more milk.
Your breasts will start to make milk in the first couple of days after you give birth. This happens even if you don't breastfeed. You may have some milk leak from your breasts, and your breasts may feel sore and swollen. This is called engorgement.
It usually takes about 6 weeks to recover from your c-section but this will depend on your individual situation. If you had any problems during or after your c-section, or if you're looking after other children at home, you may feel you need more time to recover.
Getting up and walking around once you are home will help you heal faster and can help prevent blood clots. You should be able to do most of your regular activities in 4 to 8 weeks.
What is the Golden Hour? After the birth of the baby, both vaginal and c-section birth, the Golden hour consists of uninterrupted and immediate skin to skin contact, limited interventions that are not necessary, if possible and desired having delayed cord clamping, and having the first feeding of baby completed.
The fluid your breasts produce in the first few days after birth is called colostrum. It's thick and usually a golden yellow colour. It's a very concentrated food, so your baby will only need a small amount, about a teaspoonful, at each feed. Your baby may want to feed quite often, perhaps every hour to begin with.
Increasing your milk supply will take time, so don't give up. Even dry pumps (when you pump but nothing comes out) sends a signal to your body that more milk is needed on tap, so it's getting the work done even if there's no output to show for it right away. Stick with it and you'll see the results after a few days.
Signs that your milk is coming in: Breast fullness, swelling, heaviness, warmth, engorgement, or tingling. Leaking milk. Changes in your baby's feeding patterns, or their behavior at the breast.
Increase pumping frequency
Generally, moms should be pumping every 3 hours. Pumping more often can help stimulate breasts to produce more milk. Moms can try pumping both breasts for 15 minutes every two hours for 48-72 hours. Then moms can return to their normal pumping routine.
