MOVICOL® has a natural mode of action that works gently, in harmony with your body. acts locally in the colon to relieve constipation: The water retained by MOVICOL® softens the stool and bulks it up slightly. As the stool gently expands, it naturally triggers colonic activity and a bowel movement.
If your child does not drink enough water with it, the medicine will not work properly and your child may become dehydrated. Open the sachet and pour the contents into the water. Stir well until all the powder has dissolved and the mixture is clear or slightly hazy.

Movicol won't make you have a bowel movement immediately; it can take one to two days of taking Movicol for it to work.
There is no cure for slow transit constipation. Treatment options may include: medication to improve bowel motility. regular enemas to flush the rectum of faeces.
Stimulant laxatives such as Senokot (made from senna pods) and Dulcolax (active ingredient: bisacodyl) are the fastest-working oral laxatives, with overnight results.
DOSAGE. For adults and children over 12 years of age. Constipation: The recommended dose is one sachet daily. This can be increased to 2 or 3 sachets daily if necessary.
The water retained by MOVICOL® softens the stool and bulks it up slightly. As the stool gently expands, it naturally triggers colonic activity and a bowel movement. Because of the lubricating effect of MOVICOL® and the rehydrated, softened, stool - the bowel movement feels comfortable.
How do you know when faecal impaction has cleared? There may be small lumps of poo of any shade of brown if the treatment has been successful. If your child is suffering from faecal impaction, you can give them some sweetcorn. If it appears in your child's poo within 24 hours, the impaction has cleared.
Empty the sachet of powder into a cup, glass, or bottle. Add the right amount of cold water and stir until the powder has dissolved and the water is clear.
MOVICOL® works in a natural way, delivering water to the dehydrated stool, where it's absorbed and retained. The effect of the water is to lubricate, soften and expand the poo – ultimately triggering an easy and comfortable bowel movement just like a normal poo.
(Movicol, CosmoCol and Laxido are all names of macrogols)
Macrogol laxatives work by 'binding with' water and delivering it to the large bowel. It is therefore essential to mix it with the correct amount of water or it will not work!
The main active ingredient, macrogol 3350, goes straight to the bowel where, by retaining a set amount of water, it softens, expands and lubricates the stool to trigger peristalsis - in the same way as your normal bowel movement. MOVICOL® does not ferment either, which means less likelihood of gas or bloating/wind.
