Most mild to moderate cases of candidiasis will clear up in two to three days after you complete treatment. More severe cases of candidiasis may take a couple of weeks to clear up completely after treatment.
Candida die-off symptoms typically start shortly after beginning treatment for the infection, usually within 1–2 hours. The symptoms may get steadily worse over a few days, then resolve on their own. Candida die-off is not a chronic illness or a new infection.
When candida yeast cells die, they release a noxious (harmful) substance that contains roughly 79 different toxins. When large numbers of these pathogenic (disease-causing) micro-organisms are killed off quickly, the cell death that occurs leads to a simultaneous release of toxins.

If you're taking medication for a yeast infection, you shouldn't have sex until you're finished with treatment. Sex can cause more irritation, and certain antifungal medications can weaken the materials used in condoms and diaphragms.
Symptoms of vaginal candidiasis include redness, swelling, itching, painful intercourse, and a thick, white discharge from the vagina ( 16 ). Although not common, Candida can also cause a urinary tract infection (UTI).

Prognosis. Typically, in otherwise healthy people with superficial candidiasis, a properly treated infection goes away without leaving permanent damage. Superficial candidiasis may take longer to treat and is more likely to recur in people that need long courses of antibiotics.

Women tend to be more likely to get vaginal yeast infections if their bodies are under stress from poor diet, lack of sleep, illness, or when they are pregnant or taking antibiotics. Women with immune-suppressing diseases such as diabetes and HIV infection also are at increased risk.
OTC Treatment
Fortunately, most yeast infections are not serious. Left untreated, yeast infections will usually go away on their own, but the severe itching can be hard to tolerate for some.
