Atlantic journalist James Hamblin did the full calculation and found that if the average person spends 20 minutes a day washing themselves this adds up to over 12,000 hours over a lifetime.
This depends on the length of the shower taken and the type of head on the shower. The average shower duration is approximately 7 minutes and the average shower volume is approximately 55 litres.
The average shower lasts about eight minutes. If you're spending more than 15 minutes in the shower, you may need to make an adjustment. Dermatologists recommend keeping your showers between 5 and 10 minutes. This time period gives you enough time to properly clean your body without overdoing it.
Men, on average, spend about 855.8 days of their lives in the bathroom, or 2 years and 125 days. Compare this to women, who spend about 770.8 days of their lives in the bathroom (2 years and 40 days).
Dermatologists recommend keeping showers relatively short (around 5-15 minutes) so you don't dry out your skin. However, if you're washing and conditioning your hair, shaving your legs, or just trying to relax and unwind, it might take a bit longer.

Most professionals recommend spending no more time on the toilet than it takes to pass a stool. Studies have shown that the average bowel movement takes 12 seconds. Sometimes it does take longer, however, so at maximum, you should not spend more than 10 minutes on the toilet.
While you may think you don't spend a lot of time in your bathroom, according to a Bathroom Habits Survey from MaP, the average person spends 30 minutes in the bathroom daily. That is more than 182 hours per year for each individual, and many find themselves spending more time than the average.
Nearly two thirds of people (65%) take a bath that lasts between 10 minutes and half an hour. Longer baths are a preserve of the young – about two thirds of people aged 50 or over have a bath lasting between 10 and 20 minutes compared to just a little over four in ten people aged 49 or younger.

Australians have the status of being one of the cleanest nations on the planet. 90 per cent of women and 80 per cent of men bathe or shower at least once daily according to a 2008 report by the SCA, a leading global hygiene company.
Mistake #2. Showering for too longBetween the steam, streaming water, and warmth, it's tempting to spend 15, 20, even 30 minutes in the shower, but many experts say anything more than 10 minutes is too much. “You shouldn't shower for more than 5 to 10 minutes,” says Dr. Farris.
"Showering for less than five minutes may not be long enough to cleanse your body, and can cause bacterial or fungal infections," she added.
Or perhaps the time spent in the bathroom is not indicative of actual poop time, but rather time spent reading the news, watching videos, or playing games. So for humans, the average poop duration is around 12 minutes.
A few blamed “boredom”, others “relaxation” and “hygiene”. But the most common response, with almost 80 percent of the vote, was that they were in there “to get some alone time”.
According to the researchers at Yale University, people who take a long-hot shower or bath may do so to subconsciously ward off feelings of loneliness or social isolation.
Most children would be expected to toilet 4-7 times a day, so anything more than this may be a cause for concern. If a child is toileting 8 times or more a day there may be several reasons for this: A small bladder capacity for age. Having a twitchy (overactive bladder)
However, studies show having a bowel movement happens at a different frequency for everyone. If, for most of your life, you have a bowel movement every day, that's YOUR normal. Some people have a bowel movement about three times a week, while others, only once a week.
A general rule of thumb is to replace a toilet around every 25 years, though your mileage may vary. You might also want to consider replacing your toilet if it was installed before 1994.
Other studies have shown that women take about one and a half to two times as long in the bathroom and a lot of this has to do with practical aspects such as more doors having to be open and closed (comparing to men using urinals), and more clothes having to be taken off and put back on.
In general, I would say that by the age of 8 or 9 years-10 at the latest-most children have developed enough of a sense of personal boundaries and body space that they no longer want to shower with a parent or bathe with a sibling of the opposite sex.
While this is a matter of discretion, experts suggest waiting for the child to be 6 or 7 years old at least before letting them experience bath time on their own. Just as you do, remember the goal is to make them appreciate and exercise control over their own body and not shame nudity.
