As a result, Marsali takes on much of the physical labor of tending the whisky still and minding the animals, as well as caring for her four young children, cooking, and cleaning, while Fergus seeks out odd jobs that take him away from home for extended periods, like acting as messenger or translator.
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
Later in the month, Marsali gives birth to her fourth child, a boy named Henri-Christian, who has dwarfism. Some of the residents of Fraser's Ridge believe that the child's condition is a punishment for his parents' sins, and make no secret of their superstitions.
Henri-Christian is born as the fourth child of Fergus and Marsali. He is a dwarf and some of the residents of Fraser's Ridge believe he is a punishment for his parents' sins. Henri-Christian is placed in a basket and put into a stream by some boys. Roger saves him and baptized him.
Fergus is 17 years older than Ian and 15 years older than Marsali.
Marsali would have been left a widow with four children, and everyone would have been devastated. Fortunately, that's not how it all played out. And we got to hear that Fergus and Marsali were heading to New Bern where Fergus could open up his own print shop.
In the novels, Marsali and Fergus apparently know. They haven't been told on-page, but Diana Gabaldon confirms that the two know that Claire, Bree, and Roger are time travelers.
Jamie also has two stepdaughters, Marsali MacKimmie Fraser and Joan MacKimmie, from his marriage to his second wife, Laoghaire MacKenzie.
These bruises are there before the attack on Claire and Marsali, though. We do get to see a conversation between the two of them play out, with Marsali explaining that Fergus is being rough at times and leaves marks but that he isn't abusive.
It's one of the Outlander theories, based on the idea that Fergus could be one of Claire's ancestors. This is all linked to the theory that Fergus is the son of Comte St. Germain.
He also gave Marsali the support she needed to believe that she would make it through another pregnancy. Despite everything he is currently going through, he was there when she needed him the most. Marsali did survive childbirth. The baby also survived.
The big question for Marsali, Fergus, and others is why Henri-Christian is a dwarf. Is it something that Marsali did or something that happened to her? The truth we know now is that it's simply genetics.

Germain (Stanley Weber) is revealed to be Fergus' father.
She is a bit older. The book version of Marsali is only 15 when she boards the Artemis with Fergus (age 30) in Voyager. For modern sensibilities, they aged Marsali to 18 on the show.
She went into intense labour during dinner, with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) by her side, Marsali gave birth to a son. Despite the happiness in the room, Fergus was instantly devastated after spotting their baby was born with dwarfism.
When Claire finds more bruises on Marsali's wrist, she asks her straight up if Fergus is doing this to her. Marsali explains she was so fed up with him being drunk that she lost her temper and attacked him — he grabbed her to defend himself.
“He's about 25,” Gabaldon said. It's an interesting response. If you're up to date on the series, then you know that Jamie is not dead at the age of 25.
He may never have called Jamie “Dad,” but Jamie has been the only father figure he's ever known. He's always looked up to Jamie, and this moment shows that Jamie continues to respect Fergus and call him family. There are sadly some who wouldn't view adopted sons and daughters in the same way as biological ones.
Fergus and Marsali do have another child during the ninth book. In fact, they have two more children! It's always been clear that the two of them enjoy being parents, even if they sometimes struggle with the life it brings.
This New Outlander Character Has a Big Future in the Books
Last week, Outlander introduced a character who may have seemed like a passing annoyance at the time: Laoghaire's daughter Marsali. She's a teenager who calls Jamie "daddy" because it turns out Laoghaire married Jamie in Claire's absence.
After the birth of his fourth kid, Henri-Christian, Fergus gets caught between a rock and a hard place, unable to stop blaming himself for Henri-Christian's dwarfism. Fergus's alcohol addiction continues to worsen, and he is increasingly unable to act like a good father and husband.
The Outlander TV show on Starz has cast two more roles for the upcoming third season. César Domboy is replacing Romann Berrux as Fergus.
The simple answer is no. Claire and Jamie don't have any more children after Brianna. Claire heads through the stones while pregnant with Brianna at the end of the second season/book. She spends 20 years in the 20th century, and she and Frank don't have any children together.
William loses both his mother Geneva, who dies during childbirth, and his supposed father the Earl (killed by Jamie), shortly after his birth, from there he ends up in the care of Jamie's friend and close confidant Lord John Gray - who had married Geneva's sister Isobel.
