In 1953, Queen Elizabeth's fold of Highland cattle was founded. They roam the 50,000 acres surrounding the Balmoral Castle. She is even considered one of the United Kingdom's top highland breeders, and some of her cattle's bloodline can be traced back to the reign of Queen Victoria, who received cows as a gift in 1871.
The queen was, of course, most famously known for her love of dogs and owned more than 30 corgis and dorgis — Dachshund and Welsh corgi hybrids — over her lifetime, according to the official royal website.
These beautiful classic breeds have a lot going for them, including docility and longevity. The Queen has raised Highland cattle since 1953 at her home in Balmoral, while her Sussex cattle reside at her estate in Windsor.
