Do not take showers, take baths instead. Avoid using water that is too hot as it could make you dizzy. Do not wash your hair until at least 3 days after your surgery.
Answer: Hair washing tips after rhinoplasty
You can try washing your hair from behind, so as to limit the amount of water that may reach your nasal splint (cast).
Many patients should be able to return to the shower about 48 to 72 hours after their procedure. However, their first few showers after surgery will be modified to prevent infection.
The answer largely depends on what your doctor recommends, but usually patients will be able to wash their face within a few days of the procedure. Unless you have splints that need to stay dry before its removal, you should be able to maintain personal hygiene soon after coming home from the procedure.
Answer: Washing your face after rhinoplasty
In my practice, once the tape and cast are removed after 1 week you can wash your face gently with any cleanser you prefer. Usually, when I tell patients it is time to wash their face I get a jubuliant smile and a hug patients are so happy!
How long after rhinoplasty can I wash my nose? You can start washing the outside of your nose after 7-10 days, once the splint covering the surgery area has been removed. Make sure you do this gently until your nose fully heals in 4-6 weeks. At that point, you may wash your nose as normal.
After a rhinoplasty procedure, don't be surprised if your smile is temporarily affected by post-operative swelling. The effect is temporary and your smile will return to normal after the initial swelling has dissipated. This may take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.
You can rest assured that your nostrils will return to normal size once your nose is fully healed. While it takes about two weeks to see your initial results, it generally takes a year for patients to see the most optimal outcomes.
The first week
Patients are seen at 1 week to remove the sutures and ensure everything is healing normally. Some bruising under the eyes and cheek is normal at this stage but resolves within 10-14 days.
Smiling and laughing 2 weeks after a Rhinoplasty should not have any impact on the final result.
When can I have a bath or shower after surgery? After 48 hours, surgical wounds can get wet without increasing the risk of infection. After this time, you can get your stitches wet briefly with a light spray (such as in the shower), but they should not be soaked (for example, in the bath).
At first, nose taping may be necessary 24/7, depending on your specific circumstances. In this case, the tape should be removed every 2-3 days and new tape applied. After several days or weeks, nose taping may only be done at night to help with swelling and removed each morning.
In most patients, it takes roughly 6 weeks for the bones in your nose to heal following surgery. During this time, you should avoid strenuous exercise. Even movements that seem harmless like stretching, lifting, or bending over can increase nasal swelling.
No lying flat. Sit up or lie with head of bed elevated 30-45 degrees. This is necessary to decrease edema (which will cause difficulty with breathing).
Answer: Nasal Hair Show after Rhinoplasty
You do not have more nasal hair after rhinoplasty, but it is more visible due to a change in tip rotation. As swelling resolves, the tip may settle and the nasal hairs will be less obvious.
For the first-week post Rhinoplasty surgery, stick to foods that are soft and easy to chew. For example: yogurt, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, and porridge. Such foods are nutritious and easy to chew, making them the perfect addition to your list of what to eat after Rhinoplasty.
Days 1 to 3
During the first 72 hours after your rhinoplasty, focus on taking it easy and letting your body rest. This is usually when the most tenderness, swelling and bruising will occur. Applying a cold compress every hour or so can help to make you more comfortable.
3 to 6 Months: Numbness and abnormal skin sensations around your nose should be completely gone by this point. One year: By this point, the healing process should be complete, give or take a few weeks or months. You shouldn't experience any swelling, bruising, discomfort, redness, or pain at this point.
Taping can be effective to subside the swelling and shrink the skin down. It doesn't, however, affect the shape and form of the nose.
The tip takes the longest time to heal and mold to the new framework because it's the thickest skin of the nose. If the tip of your nose is still very firm, it may mean that there is still some swelling.
After rhinoplasty surgery, your nose will be extra vulnerable as a result of the changes made to this structure. Your bones, cartilage, and surrounding tissues will be more fragile as they heal, sometimes for up to a year after surgery.
In summary, crying, laughing, and yawning are all activities that you should avoid or take caution with for the first few weeks after rhinoplasty surgery. While they will not physically ruin your results, they can cause temporary swelling and bruising.
Rhinoplasty can influence the appearance of the upper lip and make it look longer, but it does not actually change the height. If you express interest in making your upper lip more visible, your facial plastic surgeon may rotate or change the position of the nasal tip during a rhinoplasty procedure.
Sneezing and coughing forcefully after rhinoplasty can cause a buildup of pressure in the nose, which could lead to bleeding. It's best not to sneeze or cough for 14 days following surgery.
