Infantry Soldiers are part of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps (RAInf) and are posted to one of the seven battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment. Each Battalion has a dedicated unit role being Armoured Infantry, Amphibious, Littoral or Motorised Infantry.
It is the most senior of the corps' regiments in the order of precedence, and currently consists of seven Regular Army infantry battalions: 1st Battalion (1 RAR) – motorised infantry.
There are 61 Regular Army infantry regiments and 18 Army Reserve infantry regiments, plus the 1st Special Forces, in the Combat Arms Regimental System.
BATTALION. Battalions consist of four to six companies and can include up to about 1,000 soldiers. They can conduct independent operations of limited scope and duration and are usually commanded by a lieutenant colonel. There are combat arms battalions, as well as combat support and combat service support battalions.

All full time soldiers in the Army must first complete Soldier Training at the 1st Recruit Training Battalion Kapooka, near Wagga Wagga. The duration of the Basic Training course is 80 days.
During its service in Australia, the 12th/50th Infantry Battalion had largely beeng a part of York Force - a group of Militia units used for the defence of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland. Just prior to 2 May 1945, however, the 50th Infantry Battalion was unlinked from the 12th Infantry Battalion and disbanded.
The smallest unit in an army is the squad, which contains 7 to 14 soldiers and is led by a sergeant. (A slightly larger unit is a section, which consists of 10 to 40 soldiers but is usually used only within headquarters or support organizations.)
The Mechanised Infantry
The Indian Army's Mechanised Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment with 27 battalions scattered around the country in various armoured formations.
When at full strength, an infantry regiment normally comprised two field battalions of about 800 men each or 8–10 companies. In some armies, an independent regiment with fewer companies was labelled a demi-regiment. A cavalry regiment numbered 600 to 900 troopers, making up a single entity.
US Army Divisions
The US Army has ten active military divisions.
A battalion is a regimental sub-unit of infantry amounting to between 500 and 1,000 soldiers. It normally consists of a headquarters and three or more companies.
