At the end of 2021, the Moslem population of Israel was estimated at 1.707 million (18.1% of all residents) – an increase of 35,400 compared with the end of 2020. The annual growth rate of the Moslem population in 2021 was 2.1% (2.0% in 2020).
About eight-in-ten (81%) Israeli adults are Jewish, while the remainder are mostly ethnically Arab and religiously Muslim (14%), Christian (2%) or Druze (2%).
But unlike Jewish citizens, these people were subjected to military rule until 1966. Today, about 21 percent of Israel's population is Arab (roughly two million people). The majority are Sunni Muslims, though there are also many Christians.
The Holy Land is an excellent travel destination for Muslim visitors; the country is packed with significant Islamic landmarks. The top Muslim attraction in Israel is Al Aqsa Mosque on Temple Mount (Haram al-Sharif) in Jerusalem.
Twenty per cent of Israel's population is Arab but only about 1% of them serve in the army.
There are over 400 mosques in Israel, of which some 73 are located in Jerusalem.
Muslim Bedouins
Many Negev Bedouins serve in the Israel Defense Forces. Each year, between 5%–10% of the Bedouin of draft age volunteer for the IDF (unlike Druze and Jewish Israelis, they are not required by law to do so).
The foundation for Jerusalem's Islamization was laid by the Muslim conquest of the Levant, and began shortly after the city was besieged and captured in 638 CE by the Rashidun Caliphate under Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second Rashidun caliph.
In Sunni Islam, Jerusalem is the third-holiest city after Mecca and Medina. Muslims believe that Muhammad was transported to Jerusalem during his Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj).
Ethnic and religious minorities have full voting rights in Israel and are entitled to government benefits under various laws.
Muslim Population in India

The History of Jerusalem during the Kingdom of Jerusalem began with the siege of the city in 1099 as part of the First Crusade. This resulted in Jerusalem being conquered by Christian forces, after it had been under Muslim rule for nearly 450 years.
The Islamic history of Jerusalem begins with the conquest of the city by Caliph Umar in 635 (or 638). Umar had been one of the prophet Muhammad's closest companions and served as his second successor (khalifa) after Abu Bakr.

Only Orthodox Judaism is officially recognized in Israel (though conversions conducted by Conservative and Reform clergy outside of Israel may be accepted for the purposes of the Law of Return). As a result, Conservative and Reform synagogues receive minimal government funding and support.

However, few Christians now live in the region, compared to Muslims and Jews. This is mainly because Islam displaced Christianity throughout the Middle East, and the rise of modern Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel has seen millions of Jews emigrate to Israel.
