We recommend bringing at least two different changes of clothes. There's usually not enough time to change more than three times. Remember that you can completely change your look by throwing on a button down shirt or adding a jacket and scarf. With that in mind, consider bringing one casual and one dressy outfit.
It's best to have multiple different outfits for your senior photos so that you can truly get a wide variety of pictures! If you only have one outfit there's not a ton of variety you can get.
Number of Outfits
For a full day session (4 – 8 hours), I usually suggest my client have 3 – 5 complete outfits for their session. You will want to create a variety of looks with these outfits so that you have a lot of variety in your photos.
You will usually have about 30 images to choose from, but you only walk away with the images you love.
The researchers found that a “sufficient” wardrobe consists of 74 garments and 20 outfits in total. As an example, they've suggested six outfits for work, three outfits for home wear, three outfits for sports, two outfits for festive occasions, plus four outdoor jackets and trousers or skirts.
Natural, solid colors like blue, greens, grays, and whites will photograph best and work well with most backgrounds. Solid colors work great especially for close-ups. The focus will be on you rather than your outfit.
An outfit change means you can do one outfit with neutral colours, and can bring your bold wild colours for your second outfit! If you're stressed trying to pick out your outfits, having two will also reduce your stress because you won't have to decide between your two favourites!
You want an outfit you feel comfortable and “yourself” in – this will show through in the picture. Instead of buying something new, go for something you love and showcases your personality. Style your look from top to bottom, including shoes and any jewelry (or props), so you know you're not missing anything.
We typically recommend bringing a few changes of clothes to your senior photo session. Choose 2-3 styles from either casual, cozy, formal, school-related, and/or sports-related. You want to have a variety of shots to choose from, and it's more fun if you have different outfits!
Parents are welcome to come to the session, but it's ok if your senior wants to come without you. Some seniors want to do this session on their own and some can't imagine doing it alone. If you do come to the session, I will always ask you to pose for at least one photo with your senior!
For your casual outfit, think about wearing jeans or shorts with a cute top! You could wear your favorite pair of jeans/shorts, some jeans that have a design embroidered on them, jeans that have patches, ripped jeans, or jeans that have two different washes on them!
The best way to make unique senior photography is by choosing an interesting location. If everybody is doing senior pictures at school, at home or in the park, you should think outside the box. You can also ask your clients if they have a special location in mind.
The white french manicure is perfect for senior pictures because it is classic and makes your hands look good without taking attention away from your gorgeous face. Other color that look amazing are light neutral tones, light pinks and very subtle neutral toned sparkle.
Avoid white, bright red and all-black outfits.
All three of these colors pose technical problems. For instance, before shooting, your videographer will adjusts the camera exposure for your face, so if you're wearing a bright white top, that top will glow.
Usually, senior photography is scheduled for the spring or summer before the fall of your senior year. From March to May, the temperatures are usually comfortable, and it's ideal to get senior photos done early so it's one less thing to worry about when you're a senior.
Capturing colors such as yellow and red are recommended as they are both powerful and alluring colors. Whenever you are taking photos, keep an eye out for neutral colored scenes that have a pop of color in them that you could capture in your composition.
Change and wash your workout clothes, swimwear, and underwear after every wear. Casual and formal clothes can last up to five times wearing them. Coats, jackets, parkas, hats, gloves, and other accessories can be laundered once a season.
One of the telltale signs you have too many clothes is when you wear the same things over and over again. This is less due to a lack of choice in your closet. On the contrary, getting dressed is stressful because there is too much choice. Why not sort out some garments, and free up some of your valuable closet space?
2. Do the clothing countdown: If you need a mantra to help streamline your wardrobe, use the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 rule for a weeklong trip: Limit yourself to no more than five sets of socks and underwear, four tops, three bottoms, two pairs of shoes and one hat. The list should be adjusted to suit your needs.
Professional senior portraits are the perfect way to mark this milestone in your life. These images give both you and your parents something to look back on in the years to come, as well as a way to share your excitement with friends and family about your accomplishments and the big changes to come in your life.
In conclusion, graduation photos are expensive because they are a way to commemorate a major milestone. They are also a way to show off your achievements to friends and family. If you are looking to save money, you can do a few things, such as taking your own photos or finding a cheaper photographer.
