Jesus Predicts a Third-Day Resurrection When we arrive at the Gospels, we find Jesus speaking of a third-day resurrection when he talks about his death with his disciples. In fact, he mentions “three days” 21 times in the Gospel accounts!
The number 3 biblically represents divine wholeness, completeness and perfection. If there ever was a desire to highlight an idea, thought, event or noteworthy figure in the Bible for their prominence, the number 3 was used to put a divine stamp of completion or fulfillment on the subject.
Then they said to the king, "Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day." When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.
Gospel of Matthew
The second warning appears in Mark 9:30–32 (and also in Matthew 17:22–23) as follows: He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
Dry land and plants were created on the third day. On the fourth day, God created the sun, the moon and the stars. Water and sky animals were made on the fifth day, and on the sixth day, land animals and people were created.
The Third Day Matters
For Jesus and the apostles, the timing of his resurrection has strong theological implications. The three-day timeline matters to the biblical narrative because it is the special day on which God creates new life and activates his covenant with humanity.
“After two days he will revive us, and on the third day he will raise us and we will live in his presence” (Hos 6:2).
“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19).

King David was a devout Jew who had declared that he prayed three times a day. It was customary that many devout Jews would pray three times a day: morning, evening and at bedtime. King David put his whole being into praising God.
1. Personal faith. Some scholars believe that Daniel had a prayer chamber built on top of his house, with the windows permanently open toward Jerusalem. It was an act of faith on the part of an exiled Jew to pray three times a day toward the land from which he had been taken captive.
The bible tells us that David had a vow of praise unto the Lord. Seven times a day he would praise the Lord, and three times a day he would pray.
Throughout human history, the number 3 has always had a unique significance, but why? The ancient Greek philosopher, Pythagoras, postulated that the meaning behind numbers was deeply significant. In their eyes the number 3 was considered as the perfect number, the number of harmony, wisdom and understanding.
