— Gypsy Rose Blanchard has tied the knot with Louisianan Ryan Scott Anderson despite still serving her 10-year prison sentence.
Gypsy pled guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 after her lawyer negotiated a plea deal. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, though she may be eligible for parole this year. Her boyfriend, Godejohn, was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2018 and he'll spend the rest of his life in prison.
Rod and Gypsy have reconnected since she's been in prison.
"It's a hundred times better, honestly," he said. "We email each other. She can call me anytime, and she does. I'm keeping tabs on all of her accomplishments in school.
Hulu's "The Act" is based on Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a Missouri prison. Gypsy will be eligible for parole in 2023, when she's 32 years old. She is currently 27, though her real age was actually a mystery to her for most of her life—her mom Dee Dee kept it a secret from her.
Gypsy never thought she was going to get caught
She was also seen expressing immediate regret at the murder of her mother, and was desperately attempting to cover her up.
The meeting did not go as planned—Dee Dee hated Godejohn—but Gypsy was still able to sneak away and lose her virginity to Godejohn in a bathroom stall, according to her testimony at his trial. According to ABC News, Dee Dee punished Gypsy after the movie theater incident.
According to the American Dental Association, dental extractions occur when the teeth are severely decayed, damaged, or diseased. It's unclear why Gypsy's teeth decayed, but it's likely a combination of poor dental hygiene, malnutrition, and the many unnecessary medications she was taking.
Experts believe Dee Dee had a mental illness known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy (also called factitious disorder imposed on another), which made her fabricate her daughter's ill health in order to receive attention and sympathy for taking care of a sick child.
While not much is known about him personally, he was reportedly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and a low-average IQ. He also had a run-in with the law in 2013 at the age of 23 when he was allegedly caught masturbating while watching pornography at a McDonald's, according to a local report on Patch.com.
In 2010, Dee Dee was telling everyone that Gypsy Rose was 14, but she was actually 19 years old. By then, she knew she wasn't as sick as her mother claimed — as she was well aware that she could walk.
Gypsy Rose is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the Chillicothe Correctional Centre in Missouri, and according to prison officials, she will be eligible for parole in 2024.
Prior to the marriage, Blanchard was engaged with someone else. Her stepmother, Kristy Blanchard, told Intouchweekly.com that the pair called off the engagement in August of 2019. Blanchard is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for her involvement with the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
Though he's set to spend the rest of his life behind bars and Gypsy has spoken out against him (and has since moved on and is engaged to her new boyfriend), Nick still called his former girlfriend his "soul mate" in a sneak peek at the Oxygen special, airing tonight.
Godejohn asked Judge David Jones for leniency on the armed criminal action charge, which carries a minimum sentence of only three years, saying he had fallen “blindly in love” with Gypsy. He received a sentence of 25 years on that charge, to run concurrent with the life sentence. He remains in prison today.

According to her testimony at Nick's trial, Gypsy hoped that Dee Dee and her boyfriend would hit it off, and she'd allow the pair to date. Although he traveled from Big Bend, Wisconsin, to Springfield, Missouri, the meetup didn't go as planned, but she did sneak off to have sex with him in the handicap bathroom.
The real Gypsy Rose Blanchard is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the Missouri Chillicothe Correctional Center. But she could be up for parole as early as 2024. Although The Act dramatizes her story, Gypsy won't benefit fiscally from the show—at least, that's according to Gypsy's stepmom Kristy Blanchard.
"It is possible that Gypsy Rose presents with puberphonia (high-pitched voice after birth), a class of psychogenic voice disorders," says Jayne Latz, an executive communication coach and president and founder of Corporate Speech Solutions.
Experts say that Gypsy Rose was the victim of a condition previously known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy—now referred to as factitious disorder imposed on another (FDIA)—a mental health disorder where a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury to a person under their care for attention and sympathy.
The show gives the man the name Scott and stretches out Gypsy's crush on him as they exchange texts. It culminates with her running away to be with him when he's hospitalized. Dee Dee arrives at his home the same night with the counterfeit papers that state Gypsy is a minor.
His autism diagnosis
Godejohn was diagnosed with autism in grade school, according to his father Bobby Godejohn. “From the very first day when I was in kindergarten all the way to twelfth grade, every single one of those days I was in special education,” Nick said.
