Every time you wear them: tights, leggings, yoga pants, exercise clothing, T-shirts, socks undershirts/underpants and swimming suits. Every two days: hand towels and dish towels. Every three to four times you wear or use them: bath towels, bras, slips, dresses, sweaters, skirts, pajamas, slacks and jeans.
The average family does their laundry once a week. Depending on the family size, this can take anywhere between 2 to 5 hours. For a family with pets, doing the laundry can take much longer.
Tip #1: Do some laundry every day.
Taking the time to throw a load of laundry in each day saves more time in the long run. Instead of doing all the loads in one day, take 15-20 minutes each day to wash at least one load.
Everyday Wear
"If you're wearing something for a few hours, and not sweating, it's probably okay to wait 2 to 4 wears before washing. Or, after a full day's use," says Dr. Gonzalez. "If you're working from home, it's probably okay to wait after 3 to 4 wears before washing your clothes."
Laundry is very subjective, but it is recommended that you should be doing at least one load of laundry a week, depending on how often you re-wear clothes and what kind of daily lifestyle you have.
There are downsides to both extremes: laundering your clothes more than you need to can shorten their lifespan and wear them out quickly, but washing too rarely can be unhygienic and cause a lot of icky bacteria growth.
So yes, back-to-back washing of clothes can eventually lead to damage and wear. But the good news is that washing clothing is a relatively gentle process. An occasional rewash or two should not negatively affect the condition or lifespan of your clothes.
Here are some basic guidelines on how often to wash clothes: Shirts and blouses: after 1-2 wearings. Dress pants or slacks: after 2-3 wearings. Jeans: after 4-5 wearings.
Don't Overload the Machine
Clothes should be distributed evenly and loosely inside the machine. Even a large load of laundry should not fill the washer tub more than three-quarters full.
How often to wash towels. The best way to prevent germs from growing on your bath towel is to let it dry completely between each use, and wash it frequently. The Cleaning Institute recommends washing bath towels after three uses. If you shower every day, that means laundry almost twice a week.
A regular cycle is best for sturdy and dirty clothes, while the permanent press setting is fine for the average load. Use the delicate cycle for lacy and loosely woven fabrics. Use hot water for white loads, warm water for the average load, and cold water for bright colors.
When it comes to small vs. large loads of laundry, a full load is the more energy-efficient option. If you need to do a smaller load, be sure to choose the appropriate size setting on your washing machine. Too often, consumers select “large” and never change it.
Many doctors say a daily shower is fine for most people. (More than that could start to cause skin problems.) But for many people, two to three times a week is enough and may be even better to maintain good health.

Doing no more than 5 loads of washing per week is optimal for any household to maintain the quality of clothes and machines.
How many towels fit in a 8kg washing machine? You should be able to fit around 11 towels into a 8kg washing machine.
By overloading the washer, your clothing will not come out as clean. Overloading limits the movement of the clothes, and movement is what “shakes” the dirt and grime from clothing. In addition, an overloaded wash won't disperse the detergent properly.
Can You Wash Towels with Clothes? Washing towels with clothes can transfer germs and bacteria between items in the wash. For sanitary reasons, you should always wash bath towels separately from clothing items. Putting towels in their own load also makes it easier to adjust the setting based on color.
How Much Should You Wash? For the average person, every other day, or every 2 to 3 days, without washing is generally fine.
When to wash. Rossi generally tells his patients they should wash their hair once or twice per week. But if you've had chemical treatments that can make your hair drier — such as bleach, perms or relaxers — you might want to wash it less than once weekly to avoid breaking or brittle hair or split ends, he said.

This thought is so deeply ingrained in people's psyche that many households do not run the washing machine or wash clothes on Thursdays as the members fear that such actions will accumulate bad karma.
It's better to wash a load twice in a row with a normal amount of detergent than load up on extra detergent. Many machines have a prewash setting that can be used as well. Many of our newer washing machines are designed to be energy and water-efficient.
The Experts Weigh In
The American Cleaning Institute, however, is a little more lenient with its suggestions, recommending that pajamas are washed after three or four wears. Good Housekeeping magazine says once a week is the longest you should go.
A good rule of thumb is to wash your jeans after every 3-10 wears, or when they start to smell. If you're regularly active in your jeans (think: manual work, anything where you work up a sweat), wash them every 3 wears, but if you're working at a desk, you can probably go through multiple wears without washing.
