These are categories classified by EIRIN (Film Classification and Rating Committee) to restrict viewers' ages. G: Appropriate for people of all ages. PG 12: Parental guidance is required for children under the age of 12. R 15+: People aged 15 and above will be admitted.
Rated G: General audiences – All ages admitted. Rated PG: Parental guidance suggested – Some material may not be suitable for children. Rated PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned – Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
General (G)
The G classification is suitable for everyone. G products may contain classifiable elements such as language and themes that are very mild in impact.
With the G simply standing for "General," a classification that states no content within the film has been deemed inappropriate for any viewers, many iconic classics have earned the rating despite being intended for older audiences.

A G-rated motion picture contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence or other matters that, in the view of the Rating Board, would offend parents whose younger children view the motion picture. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, sex scenes or drug use are present.
PG films are suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. A PG film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children. Legally a child of any age may view a PG film.
TV-G - programs suitable for all ages; these are not necessarily children's shows. TV-PG - parental guidance is recommended; these programs may be unsuitable for younger children. TV-14 - these shows may be unsuitable for children under 14.
One of many enjoyable features to come from the Disney/Pixar collaboration, this G rated movie entertains adults and children alike, while sharing messages about cooperation and accepting others.
Titles rated E – Everyone have content that may be suitable for persons ages six and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal violence, some comic mischief and/or mild language. T = Teen. Titles rated T – Teen have content that may be suitable for persons ages 13 and older.
A TV-Y rating means that programming is appropriate for children of all ages. TV-Y7 indicates that programming is designed for chil- dren ages 7 and older.
G = Nothing that would offend parents for viewing by children. PG = Parents urged to give "parental guidance." May contain some material parents might not like for their young children. PG-13 = Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.
R 18+ restricted
R 18+ films are legally restricted. R 18+ films are not suitable for people aged under 18 and people screening R 18+ content must not allow those aged under 18 to view the content.
Children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian over the age of 21 for R-rated movies. I.D. is required for proof of age. Children under 6 years of age are not permitted into R-rated features at all.
“That's the most R-rated G you will ever see in your life,” said Tab Murphy, a screenwriter of Disney's animated “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” which was released 25 years ago this month. “Thousands of dollars must have changed hands somewhere, I'm sure,” joked Gary Trousdale, who directed the film with Kirk Wise.
SPEED RATING Z
While it nearly always means a high performance tire for high-performing sports cars, “Z” may actually appear in the middle of a tire's size information. When it does, it represents either a maximum speed of more than 149 mph (240 kph) or 186 mph (300 kph).
K+: Some content may not be suitable for young children, usually those below nine years of age. There may be minor violence without serious injury, mild suggestive material, or minor coarse language that is justified by context. Equivalent to PG.
G - General audiences. M - Mature audiences. R - Restricted: no-one under 16 (later 17) admitted unless accompanied by an adult. X - Adults only - no-one under 17 admitted.
The MPAA rated Shrek PG for mild language and some crude humor.
Parents need to know that this animated series inspired by the classic Looney Tunes characters carries a TV-PG rating due to sexual innuendo, some racial and gender stereotyping, and cartoon-style violence.
The MPAA rated Moana PG for peril, some scary images and brief thematic elements.

According to the Motion Picture Association, the PG-13 label means the movie is fine for kids over the age of thirteen. It may not, however, be appropriate for children under thirteen because of language, violence, nudity, and other mature content. But some parents say many PG-13 movies make them uncomfortable.
The first ratings were a little different than today. “G” was for general audiences, “M” for mature audiences. “R,” in 1968 meant no one under 16 would be admitted without an adult guardian.
M-rated films and computer games are not recommended for children under the age of 15. They include portrayals of elements such as violence and themes that require a mature outlook. However, children under the age of 15 may legally access this material as the classification rating is an advisory category.
Films, videos and downloads rated 18 are not suitable for children. No one younger than 18 can go and see an 18 rated film in the cinema. No one younger than 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video, DVD or download.
