Near the end of the first season of Degrassi Junior High, Emma was conceived by Spike and Shane McKay, Spike's ex-boyfriend, at a junior high school party in Lucy Fernandez's house in the season one episode, It's Late.

The character's storyline begins in the episode "It's Late", where after a sexual encounter with Shane McKay (Bill Parrott), she becomes pregnant.
"It's Late" is the 11th episode of the first season of Canadian teen drama television series Degrassi Junior High. It originally aired on the CBC in Canada on April 5, 1987. After a careless night with Shane (Bill Parrott) at a classmate's party, Spike (Amanda Stepto) fears she is pregnant.
Shane's parents are upset and embarrassed that he is the father of Spike's baby. Nevertheless they invite Spike and her mother to dinner so everyone can meet and talk.
Emma finds her father, Shane McKay. She discovers he is living in an assisted living residence in Stouffville, Ontario.
In "Seeing Red," Spike goes to Buffy searching for forgiveness after having sex with Anya. Buffy is hurt and angry. She tells him she could never trust him enough to love him. He attempts to appeal to her, and when she says no (repeatedly) and pushes him away, he attacks.
He cheated on her with Daphne Hatzilakos. Their second relationship almost ended again when student Darcy Edwards wrongly accused him of sexual harassment to hide the fact that she was raped at a party. Spike accuses Snake of doing something wrong, and leaves until the allegations are cleared against Snake.
In "The Initiative" (season 4) he said he was 126, thus born or sired in 1874. Flashbacks in "Fool for Love" (season 5) show that Spike was sired as an adult in 1880. Assuming he was in his early to mid 20s when he was sired, Spike would be in his 140s during the series.
Wielding a sword, the Slayer fought a prolonged battle with Spike and got some good licks in; including a blow to Spike's brow leaving a scar lasting at least a century in the shape of a Y in his brow. Coincidentally, actor James Marsters had the same scar!
Spike calls Angel his sire, an intentional misdirection to make fans believe that Angel was the vampire who sired him. When Spike uses sire he also mentions "Yoda", indicating that he thought of Angel as his mentor - the father-figure who taught him after he became a vampire.
Buffy searches for Dawn and finds her with Spike, listening to one of his scary stories. Dawn reveals her crush on Spike but really shocks her sister when she says that Spike has a crush on Buffy.
Spinner and Emma never actually dated or even had much interaction, but married each other one night after getting very drunk at a casino. After realizing they did, in fact, love each other, Spinner and Emma decided to stay married. They are the only original characters from the first season to get married.
Emma leaves Will at the altar midway through the fourth season, but the two later reconcile and marry in the season finale. She becomes pregnant during the middle of the fifth season.
Mr. Archie "Snake" Simpson is the current principal at Degrassi, but was also the Media Immersions Teacher there for several years before. He's married to Christine "Spike" Nelson and has a son Jack and a step-daughter, Emma Nelson.

At the end, they marry on the beach and Sean and Emma share their very first kiss. This episode is named after the song "White Wedding" by Billy Idol.

Contrary to popular belief, the choice to leave Degrassi was not Ryan's. He revealed in a 2007 interview that the writers decided to kill J.T. off, although Ryan was considering going to college at the time. "It did come as a surprise to me that my character was getting killed off the show," explained Cooley.
Peter is hesitant at first, but, when Darcy finally admits that he is her one true love, he proceeds to have sex with her in the nurse's office, losing his virginity in the process. Peter, later on, convinces Sav and Danny to form a band.
