It is generally not very painful. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen are likely all you'll need. You will probably have a dressing over the area or over your entire penis. Follow your doctor's directions about when to remove it.
This pain often gets better in 3 or 4 days. But it may last for up to 2 weeks. Even though your baby's penis will likely start to feel better after 3 or 4 days, it may look worse. The penis often starts to look like it's getting better after about 7 to 10 days.
For 3 or 4 days after your operation, it's likely you'll experience some discomfort and swelling around the head of your penis. Before leaving hospital, you'll be given painkilling medicine, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to help ease this.

You should remain relatively inactive the first 72 hours following surgery. We do encourage walking around for a few minutes every two hours to maintain good circulation, but otherwise, no activity.
You will continue to get erections as normal after the procedure but you should refrain from any sexual activity (intercourse or masturbation) for four weeks. When you first get erections, you may feel some tightness around the scar tissue; this will regain its normal elasticity within a few months.
These findings suggest that it is better to perform circumcision when boys are < 1 year old, when the anesthesia complications are also at a minimum. A longer hospitalization is associated with an increased risk of infection as well as increased costs (24).
Excessive Foreskin Removed
In most cases the denuded area will epithelialize spontaneously and give a satisfactory end result, but the inital appearance can be quite distressing to both parents and practitioner.

Nonpharmacological interventions (pacifier, specially designed restraint chair) reduce distress during the procedure, and paracetamol (acetaminophen) may provide postoperative analgesia. No single agent has been demonstrated to ameliorate pain for all infants undergoing circumcision.
Circumcision, whereby the foreskin is removed from the penis, can cause the urethral opening to narrow, making it difficult to urinate. The condition is called meatal stenosis and the risk of developing it is 16-26 times higher in circumcised than intact boys under the age of ten.
Urine will not hurt the circumcision and should not cause pain since surgery was not performed on the area where the urine comes out. Urine is sterile and does not cause infections. It is not unusual to see a small amount of bleeding from the incision for the first day or two.
Bathing. It's best to avoid full-body bathing until the second day after surgery, but sponge baths are fine. After the second day, you can shower or bathe as normal, but don't scrub the incision site — just let the soapy warm water run over the incision and pat it dry.
After the circumcision, you will need to take steps to care for your baby's penis until it heals. This includes cleaning the area with plain water at least once daily, and whenever the area becomes dirty after a bowel movement. Allow the area to dry, and then apply petroleum jelly liberally to prevent irritation.
Foreskins removed during hospital circumcisions are sometimes sold to biotech labs, since young skin is ideal for researching skin for burn vitamins, insulin manufacture, and also making skin creams for ladies.
Wash the area daily with warm water and pat it dry. Don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing. You may cover the area with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and gauze bandage if it weeps or rubs against clothing. Change the bandage every day.
However they vary widely in outcome. The present study shows in a large cohort of men, based on self-assessment, that the foreskin has erogenous sensitivity. It is shown that the foreskin is more sensitive than the uncircumcised glans mucosa, which means that after circumcision genital sensitivity is lost.
If you get an erection in the healing period just after your procedure it will be painful. It is therefore better if you avoid anything that might lead to an erection. You can put something cold, like an icepack, on your groin to help the erection go away.
After the circumcision has healed:
Usually, after the circumcision has healed, the penis requires no additional care. Occasionally a small piece of the foreskin remains. You should pull back this skin gently each time the child is bathed.
The doctor will make an incision just below the head of the penis and remove the whole foreskin with a scalpel or surgical scissors. They will then close the incision with dissolvable stitches that attach the skin of your penis to below the head. The stitches usually disappear within two to three weeks.
