Groot's abilities are all-natural and stem from the dendronic wood that makes up his entire body. The extraterrestrial bark he was born with makes him invulnerable to most projectiles and even fire. He can control all plant life via psychokinesis, absorbing it into his body and making himself stronger.
While Groot's newfound powers are eventually removed, for a few issues, he was (once again) one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
Powers and abilities
Groot can absorb wood as food, and has the ability to regenerate. Groot can control trees and plants, using them to attack others, and appears to be resistant to fire. Groot is able to sprout dramatically increasing mass which then severely inhibits movement.
In a fight, Hulk would win 9/10. He can kill multiple soldiers with his hands, be unharmed by gunfire, and can take down a large blue alien.
In the MCU and the comics Thor is far stronger. Groot at best staggers Gladiator. Thor shatters planets and moons with the shockwave of his hits, even while being stabbed by the Necrosword. Thor knocks out an enraged Silver Surfer.
The team has had a large roster of characters to flesh out its ranks since its debut in 1969's Marvel Super-Heroes #18, but perhaps none have enjoyed the level of success and popularity as the Guardian's biggest and most powerful member: Groot!
Superhuman Strength: Groot's tree like form provides him great strength. His strength allows him to overpower Armadillo. Superhuman Durability: Groot's hide is composed of wood dense enough and durable enough to make him immune to most conventional weapons, including gunfire and fire which would consume most woods.
Avengers: Infinity War directors reveal how Groot can lift Thor's hammer Stormbreaker. I am Groot, tree of thunder. Thor's hammer Mjolnir was defined by the fact that only the 'worthy' could lift it – so basically no-one except the god of thunder (and Vision, for some reason).
Groot unleashes his full botanical fury on Thanos, raining punches on him as they both plummet to the ground. When they do land, Thanos finally manages to swat Groot away, only to see an army of heroes thundering towards him and who waste little time in pummelling him.

Through Groot's regeneration would help him recover quickly from attacks, Superman does exceed Groot in strength and durability, and impalement might fail against Superman's dense skin.
In the comic book universe he is sort of immortal, but in the MCU he isn't.
During a Vudu Viewing Party for Avengers: Infinity War, co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed a key difference between Thor's hammer Mjolnir and his new ax Stormbreaker: the latter doesn't require worthiness. That's why Groot was able to lift the ax, not because he was worthy but because he didn't need to be.
Why was Groot able to lift the new Mjolnir in Avengers: Infinity War? The “new Mjolnir” is an entirely different weapon called Stormbreaker. It has no such enchantment attached to it that states only the worthy can wield it, therefore Groot can pick it up.
Thor. Blessed with the powers and long life of a god, Thor was undoubtedly the most powerful member of the initial version of the Avengers. Not only can he fly and transport between worlds, but he was also the only one capable of taking down Thanos, even after he had assembled all six Infinity Stones.
The comic book version of Groot follows the same set of rules as MCU Groot, but this Groot is a bit more powerful. Nonetheless, Deadpool could easily defeat him.
His Weakness Is Termites
We're meant to believe that Groot transcends the laws of nature by absorbing wood, acting as a monster with consciousness and generally behaving in manners that do not apply to trees as we know them. Yet Groot's weakness is actually termites.
Groot wouldn't be able to hang with Spider-Man in a chase game, but there's no doubt if Groot knocked Peter down he would overpower him. Spidey has had some amazing feats of strength during his MCU run, but only Groot can say that he chopped off his own branched hand to give Thor's Stormbreaker a proper handle.
He doesn't necessarily exhibit pain when it happens in the film and comics, but that doesn't mean Groot doesn't feel pain at all. In fact, he defaults to anger when he gets damaged, and that's a natural response to pain. So think about that the next time you laugh at Groot getting his arm or leg cut off.
Since this scene takes place four years after Guardians of the Galaxy 2, that means Groot ages between 2-3 years annually.
2017s Marvel Animated Universe (Earth-17628)
Groot was the last of his kind once Ronan's army had erased the Flora colossus, however Groot was able to save the World Pod within himself, which he could use to recreate the Flora colossus race by planting it in the sacred pool.
What choice is best? Sell Groot or Rocket? Ultimately, it doesn't matter. You will anger Lady Hellbender either way, and both choices pay out 12,000 credits it's more a decision based on whether you want to play a stealth mission, or a firefight mission.
3 Groot Would Snap Under Drax's Power
But in his various comic incarnations, Drax the Destroyer is capable of destroying planets with his sheer power and would likely snap Groot while being able to shrug off any damage taken during the fight.
In a fight, Captain America would win 6/10.
Meanwhile, Groot was around four years old during the events of the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Then, in The Holiday Special and Vol. 3, he is around five to six years old.
