A small amount of urine should initially fall into the toilet bowl before it is collected (this clears the urethra of contaminants). Then, in a clean container, catch about 1 to 2 ounces of urine and remove the container from the urine stream. The container is then given to the health care provider.
Place the lid on the container tightly so that no urine is lost. Note: Urine voided first thing in the morning is the most concentrated specimen of the day. If one collects these concentrated specimens from two mornings, then the concentration of substances that are measured is falsely increased.

Avoid, tea and coffee because they act like natural diuretics and will cause you to pass more urine. If you leave your home during this time, take the container with you.
This also applies to normal urinary frequency. For most people, the normal number of times to urinate per day is between 6 – 7 in a 24 hour period. Between 4 and 10 times a day can also be normal if that person is healthy and happy with the number of times they visit the toilet.
Save all urine for the next 24 hours in the collection bottle. In order to get correct results, it is important to save every urine sample. If you forget to save any urine, tell your health care provider. You will need to drink plenty of fluids during this time, 6-8 (8oz.)
