It is recommended to wait until the initial healing process is complete before attempting to hide a new septum piercing. Get the horseshoe ring and have it flipped so it's going up instead of the normal way. I did this and left it that way until it was fully healed.
Use A Piercing Retainer
Most clear piercing retainers will be basically undetectable on your face, but you might even consider getting a dark brown one for smaller piercings, such as for replacing a nose stud, that will make it look like a freckle or beauty mark on your skin.
Cartilage (including nostril) and septum piercings are performed on qualified minors aged 13+. Navel, eyebrow, bridge, and industrial piercings are performed on qualified minors aged 16+. In order to pierce a minor we will need their ID, showing their photo and name, as well as that of the adult signing for them.
A septum piercing is one of the most noticeable and unusual facial piercings because of its central location on the face. Yet it can also be easily concealed, by allowing the wearer to either flip up the ring into their nose, or simply by not leaving a visible scar.
You should leave a new septum piercing alone for 6-8 weeks before changing or flipping up the jewelry. If you have to hide your piercing before then, we recommend visiting your piercer to have them help you move it or change to a retainer to help avoid irritation and infection.
The level of pain associated with getting a septum piercing can vary from person to person, but generally falls between a level 3 and 7 on a pain scale of 1-10. The pain scale is subjective and depends on individual pain tolerance levels.
Ear piercings: if you're 16 or older, you can get your ears pierced without your parent's permission. Other piercings: if you're under 18, you must get your parent's permission before you get a piercing anywhere other than your ears.
Mouth and nose piercings are particularly prone to problems since these areas are breeding grounds for all kinds of bacteria. Make sure your teen is aware that she could get an infection even if she has her piercing done in a reputable place.
If you need to we suggest starting with either a circular barbell or a retainer. Remember to always wash your hands and piercing well before and after flipping it up, and don't sleep with it flipped (unless you are wearing a retainer).
What is a medusa piercing? A medusa or philtrum piercing positions a stud in the center groove above the cupid's-bow of the lip. A piercer usually fits the piercing with a long labret stud. Once the piercing heals, a person can exchange the stud for a shorter stud to avoid causing damage to their teeth and gums.
Typically a new septum piercing should heal in 1-2 months and stay open for several days without jewelry before the risk of the nasal septum piercing closing.
“Make sure you're reasonably hygienic and blow and clean your nose the day of. The piercer will do all the cleaning we need, we just don't want to be covered in snot.”
In general, tattoos tend to hurt more than piercings because the needles used for tattoos are larger and go deeper into the skin than the needles used for piercings. However, everyone experiences pain differently, so there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to how much pain you'll feel from a tattoo or piercing.
“Depending on the area, most of our customers feel traditional nostril piercings a bit stronger than septum piercings, as long as the septum is well-performed,” says Perelmuter. Since the septum tissue is so thin, it will hurt briefly during the piercing but heal more quickly, resulting in less pain overall.
If you are under 16: You can pierce any part of the ear or body (excluding nipple, genital and dermal piercings) with a parent present on the day. Parent's & guardians must provide valid Photo Identification and complete the piercing consent form.
In Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland, it's a criminal offence for a tattooist to do tattoos for someone under 18 years. In the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, teenagers under 18 years need to get their parents' permission for tattoos.
While you should get no more than four piercings at once (less if you want easier aftercare), the only limit to how many piercings you can get overall is your anatomy. You should place at least 1/8 inch (3mm) between each piercing. This leaves a lot of piercable space, especially in the ears.
If you pinch your septum, you should feel a thin area of skin between some hard cartilage and the tip of your septum (often referred to as the sweet spot). That's where the septum piercing is placed. It is a little bit higher and a little further forward than you might realize.
What is the standard septum piercing size? A starter size for these types of piercings range from 14 gauge to 18 gauge. 16 gauge is the most common septum piercing gauge (approximately 1.2mm thick), however your piercer may pick a different size based on your unique circumstances.
