Check if there is a backup before you reinstall WhatsApp. You have to check if you have a backup before uninstalling WhatsApp. If you don't have the backup, you can create a backup by going to Settings > Chat > Chat Backup. Your data will be backed up, and you can uninstall WhatsApp now.
Create a chat backup before reinstalling

Install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store. Open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number used on your old device. Tap Start when prompted, and allow the process to complete. Finish activating your new device and you'll see your chats waiting for you.
