These are bra sizes that share the same cup volume, like a 34DD and a 32E do. Remember last week, when I was saying that a cup size is meaningless without a band size? Here's a perfect example of why that's true. The following sizes all have the same cup volume: 40C, 38D, 36DD, 34E, 32F, 30FF, 28G.
Is D or DD cup bigger? There's no difference in the spacing between single and double letter sizes, a DD is one full size larger than D, just like E is one full size larger than DD.
DD/E are the same size and which one is used depends entirely on the manufacturer. DDD/F is one cup size bigger. E is the same size as a US DDD/F.
In the USA, an E cup would be the same as a DD cup, and you can switch between the two. In the UK, an E cup would be larger than a DD cup, but it's less likely to find an E cup in the UK, as E cups are used in Europe.
e.g. a 36DD becomes a 34E. If you go up a back size but stay the same cup size, you'll notice extra room in the cup. If you go down a back size but stay the same cup size, the opposite will happen, and you'll notice the cup is tighter.
In the US, the DD bra cup is the same as the E bra cup. However, the DD bra cup is smaller than the E bra cup in the UK.
0 = AA <1 = A 1 = B 2 = C 3 = D 4 = DD 5 = DDD/E 6 = F 7 = G 8 = H.
Before the days of Kim Kardashian, Sofia Vergara and Amber Rose, women had a thing about not wanting to appear 'too big'…and manufacturers realised they would sell more bras sized as DD rather than E, because alas, it sounds 'smaller'.
The 34DD bra has a bigger band than the 32E bra. Even though the 34DD has much wider cups, the 32E has much deeper cups.
The Average American Bra Size Is Now a 34 DD - Racked.
So sure, a DD can be classed as a big cup size, but only if it's on a bigger band size too! And frankly, it's not even that big – the average US bra size is 36DDD and from experience, with more than 90% of the population wearing the wrong size, it could be that that is just the best-selling size.
It might seem confusing, but yes a DDD is the same as an F— sometimes they are labeled differently based on the brand. After size D you can either go up to size DD which is the bra size equivalent to size E, size DDD which is equivalent to size F, and size DDDD which is equivalent to size G.
In the American system, instead of A, B, C, D, E and F, there are the sizes A, B, C, D, DD, DDD and DDDD. Thus, the American "Double D" corresponds to a European E cup. In the British system that is slightly different. There, DD is an individual size between D and E.
Average Cup Size
According to a survey conducted between 1992 and 2013, the average bra size in the U.S. has increased from a 34B to a 34DD, and now just six years later, the average has shot up to a DDD — that's the largest compared to any of the other countries studied.
Proper cup fit is influenced by band size. As the band size changes, so does the cup size. For every band size you go down, you should go up one cup. If you are in a 34D with a good cup fit, but want to go down to a 32 band, you would go to a 32DD for a tighter band with the same cup fit.
CUP SIZE. Cup size is measured alphabetically e.g. A, B, C, D, DD, E, F… etc. and refers to the size of the breasts in relation to the rib cage i.e. how much bigger the breasts are than the rib cage.
AA cups are smaller than A, with AAA being the smallest bra size out there (although AAA is not as widely available).
Wearers of E cup bras are in luck. With the market booming for plus size bras online these days, there are more and more fabulous bras available in your size every day. You want support, comfort – and a great selection of colours and fabrics to match the rest of your wardrobe.
