The focus group this time was made of 408 people from the internet. Based on what these online people said, we now know that the most attractive faces are those with a lower lip that's about twice as big as the upper lip; and an overall lip size of about 9.6 percent of the total area of the lower third of the face.
The ideal lip shape, however, seems to be a more personal preference. Lips come in a variety of shapes characterized by the upper lip to lower lip ratio. A 2017 study from JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery showed the most attractive ratio is 1:2 of upper and lower lip.
Science has found that the most attractive lip shape has an upper-to-lower lip ratio of 1:2. Lips are most desirable in different shapes and forms for different people – 60% of people prefer a 1:1 ratio where the lips are completely symmetrical and evenly full.
Some studies actually saw that big lips contribute to a great extent to our attractiveness level.
In the subjective assessments, a lip proportion of 1 to 1.6 (upper lip to lower lip) was rated as most attractive: average score of 4.21 out of a possible 5. The 1:1.6 proportion is widely accepted as the "golden ratio" for beautiful lips.
Cupid. Cupid is the rarest of all lip forms. Cupid has a powerful, youthful appearance, and is very prominent in pre-adolescent females. Due to the natural growth process in a female's lips, the fullness of the lips fill in the middle first, then the sides.
Heart-shaped lips are one of the most desired types of lips among makeup lovers. Pop star Taylor Swift is known for this romantic lip shape, which is identified by a well-defined Cupid's bow.
Unsurprisingly to anyone with functioning eye balls, 'D', with a heavy upper lip, was the least attractive look. In fact, it was the heavier lower lip that was rated most attractive.
The upper lip in girls reaches its maximum thickness by age 14 and remains that way until age 16; whereas in guys it does not reach maximum thickness until 16. Thereafter the lips of both sexes begin the slow and inexorable process of thinning throughout the rest of the lifespan [Figure 1].
The appearance of the lips in part determines the attractiveness of a person's face. In females, fuller lips in relation to facial width as well as greater vermilion height are considered to be attractive.
Looking at someone's lips are one of the major signs that the other person wants to Kiss You. Psychology proves it. Another meaning of it may be, the person is comfortable talking to you and is physically attracted towards you.
The trend involves lifting the lips with Steri-Strips and then providing a significant plumping effect using dermal filler to over-emphasise the Cupid's bow.
Lip size has nothing to do with it. It is the quality of kissing that makes a difference and how much you like them.
Full lips tend to be the most common shape which includes symmetrical volume on the top and bottom lip, while a defined cupid's bow or heart-shaped lips are rare and harder to come by.
Did you know that lips are at their peak around the age of 14-16? After that, they slowly start to become thinner, often manifesting in a noticeable difference by the time you're in your 30s or 40s.
Full, plump, voluptuous lips are associated with youth and beauty, whilst thin lips tend to detract from your appearance and can even affect the overall balance of the face. We're all familiar with the common signs of skin ageing – lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and loss of volume in the cheeks and under-eyes.
A lady's mouth is often the very first part of a woman a guy will see. Not only are great lips and teeth sexy, but guys will look to your mouth for social cues, as it's the most expressive feature you possess.
The technical term for overly-large lips is “macrocheilia”. When large lips are caused by dentofacial deformity, the condition is called pseudomacrochelia. A dentofacial deformity if an imbalance of the position, size, shape, or orientation of the bones that comprise the upper and lower jaws.
There are some natural shadows that will occur with the contours and shapes that make up the lips. The upper lip will generally be darker than the lower lip because it angles slightly inward (see illustration below). You'll also typically need some shading right below the lower lip before you get to the chin.
The vast majority of participants identified “full lips” as the most attractive feature although researchers were quick to point out that women who wear lipstick, regardless of the fullness of their lips, help the male gaze longer.
And as shallow as it might be, research reveals the facial feature men find most attractive on a woman: her lips. So when you meet someone new and notice his eyes, he's actually looking at your lips.
Classic Red
This lip color should be in every girl's make-up bag. When in doubt, go red because the Classic Red is the most sexy lip of all time!
Studies have also shown that Caucasian women were found to have thinner lips than Asians, with the smallest upper lip height and volume.
M shaped lips refers to the top lip that resembles the letter “M,” and is the most difficult lip shape to treat.
